perhaps find OTHER forum and convert to it
then convert from other to SMF?

say find smf ->phpbb then convert php->smf

There's no official way to downgrade your forum version, I've heard some people have been able to accomplish this by converting to other forum softwares and back to SMF.
You can try the Help Wanted (not for support) board :)
