Help with installing a package?

Hi guys..

I'm sure you'll think me a doofis... this looks so easy to do and I just can't get it to work. 

This is the first package I'm trying to install (there are so many others I want to do next)

It's the YOUTUBE BBCODE v2.4

I have SMF 2.0 RC1

So I go into my admin - and to the packages directory and i see it there and i click on [apply mod]
and get the following error

An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

I have checked and rechecked everything in the packages and the newmods directory and EVERYTHING is set to 777..  I'm positive!!

I'm going nuts.. any ideas of what I could be missing??

Can you provide a link to phpinfo().php?
Perhaps, you're running PHP as an Apache/CGI (fast CGI) module on your server, and PHP has inherited permissions of the software which it runs under? You should check with your host that the web server user (your hosing username) has full permissions to manage the entire SMF directory, ownership for those directories should be in your username
