Hi everybody, I am new to SMF and need some help.

I searched the forum, as well as using Google, yet couldn't find my answers.  Since I only have time to work on my SMF installation over the weekend, I am hoping to get some help here, to save myself some time digging the internet, and doing the trial and error.

Please be kind and answer one more time on top of the zillions.  Thanks.

(It would be better if a new SMF user who encountered a similar problems, and received help from the others, coming back to help the fellow new users, instead of having the veteran answering the same questions over and over.  Just my opinion :D )

---------------------------------------------
I am using SMF 2.0 RC1, default theme.  Running on Linux.
---------------------------------------------

1)
The "Allow TAB in Posts" by Marook:

---------------------------------------------
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1036
---------------------------------------------

doesn't work with SMF 2.0 RC1.

I then checked the "Manual Install Instructions for 2.0 RC1":

---------------------------------------------
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=parse;mod=1036;attach=47068;smf_version=2.0_RC1
---------------------------------------------

yet didn't work.  I couldn't locate the "Find" part for the "Post.template.php" and "Display.template.php", nor I was sure about appending the additional script to the "script.js".

Anyone knows how to get "tab" to work in SMF 2.0 RC1 (with or without this plugin)?

2)
How can I set a fixed width of the left panel in the post?  By "left panel", I mean the part that showing the user's info (username, avatar).  I have set the dimension for the user avatar to 142x142, yet when I size down my browser window, the left panel gets size down by percentage too, thus there would be a horizontal scroll bar for showing the avatar...

3)
Above everything, what I need the most for a forum software is a user-friendly editor for posting.

(I checked out many other forum softwares, yet the default editors are really plain)

I am hoping to have:
a)
A un-do and re-do options

b)
A different "Message icon" selector, instead of the drop-down list that is.  Something likes the horizontal visual list for the smileys would be wonderful.

c)
A more intuitive text color selector, such as using a color plate instead of a drop-down list with handful of available colors.

4)
Last question.  Is there a way to change the size of those "HOME", "MEMBERS", "LOGOUT" buttons on the top left?  And also change the color of the boards, to make it a different color from the top and bottom parts of the SMF?  (By top part, I mean the part from the banner on, before the posting boards.  As for the bottom, that is the "Info Center" and whatever that follow)
------------------------------------------------

Sorry for asking that many questions at once.

I appreciate for your help.

I'll Try my best to answer what I know as I don not use 2.x at the moment.

1) if the code it is trying to find has a bunch of spaces before it try eliminating them and do a search for just the text.  Sometimes its just as simple as and extra space in your code.

2) not sure

3c)  For a more intuitive color picker I would recommend this mod.  Look at the first preview image to the left.

4) not sure

1. If the mod is not compatible, you will either have to change the code yourself to make it work with SMF 2.0 or wait to see if the author will release an update for it.

2. Open up /Themes/default/css/forum.css:

Koodi (Search for) [Valitse]
.poster
{
width: 15%;
}

Increase the width value.

3. The changes you need there might call for a mod to be created.

4. You can change the font size by going to /Themes/default/index.template.php:

Koodi (Search for) [Valitse]
<a', $button['active_button'] ? ' class="active"' : '', ' title="', $act , '" href="', $button['href'], '">
<span', isset($button['is_last']) ? ' class="last"' : '', '>', ($button['active_button'] ? '<em>' : ''), $button['title'], ($button['active_button'] ? '</em>' : ''), '</span>
</a>

Koodi (Replace with) [Valitse]
<font size="14"><a', $button['active_button'] ? ' class="active"' : '', ' title="', $act , '" href="', $button['href'], '">
<span', isset($button['is_last']) ? ' class="last"' : '', '>', ($button['active_button'] ? '<em>' : ''), $button['title'], ($button['active_button'] ? '</em>' : ''), '</span>
</a></font>

Change the font size to what you need. As for your other requests, I suggest requesting them as mods since they will probably require a bit more coding.
