May I know is it possible or is there a way for SMF to use SSL service; HTTPS? Would you please explain how can I do that if it is possible.

Thanks,
Dawn Ng

But the Description for this MOD says...  I am not sure if it is possible because I do not have SSL working on my site.
LainaaIf you want your entire site SSL-only, you do not need this mod. Just change the URLs for SMF to secure ones.

WARNING: This mod requires you have SSL working on your site. If you do not, enabling the functionality will BREAK login.

About
-----
This modification allows you to enable secure (SSL) logins on your forum.

This mod and other information can be found at:
http://www.animeneko.net/projects/smf/

Features
--------
- Enable SSL login for user accounts
- Enable SSL login for admin area

Limitations
-----------
- Currently, requiring SSL for login boxes is all or none.

- This mod requires a properly set up SSL environment on the webserver first.
If you cannot view the forum over SSL normally, this will need to be corrected
  before this mod will function.

How to Use
----------
SMF 1.1: A new option is added to the Features and Settings admin page.

SMF 2.0: A new option is added to the Security and Moderation General page.

Would anyone give me more workable steps?

Thanks.

If you want the entire forum to be https, you will need to set it up on your webhost end. Then use repair_settings.php and change all the paths to have https instead of http. Save the changes. Delete the repair_settings.php file once you are done. See if that will work.

On SMF I doubt that's easily possible... Since if you start using https on your forum, then everytime you load your forum from http normally, it will try to change back to https. And the other way around.
Would need some tweaking to achieve that.

EDIT: Although, looking at the mod provided earlier - that might solve this... I'm not sure...

How you can help SMF

How much control do you have over your server and the environment? I would think that putting a reverse proxy in front of it (SMF) would be a much easier thing to do. That way you would be encrypted on your external interface and running straight http inside the data center. It all depends on your provider or your sysadmins if you're at a corporate data center
