I am using the latest Firefox and I made a cookie exception like suggested by Jade in the Upgrade board, I also have stay logged in selected.  My boards are the only site I go to that does this.

Kermit

IMO it has sth. to do with cookie options,is it activated on firefox ?

This has been driving me NUTS!!!    I was going to post this myself.   Going to keep an eye on this thread.. I am the admin of our site and check it once an hour, I can't stand now (after our upgrade to 2.0) that I have to log in every time I come to the site.

The cookie on your computer may have become corrupted.  If Firefox will allow you to select a specific cookie to delete you might try deleting all cookies for this domain, otherwise you might consider deleting *all* of your cookies, which would terminate your sessions on many sites.

Are you able to stay logged in to the site if you use a different web browser?  Each browser maintains its own set of cookies.

I'm on a mac, so I tested your theory in Safari today.  Sure enough, I stayed logged in all day.    So, in Firefox, I downloaded the add-on "webmaster tools" and cleared my cookies for my site.   I'll see if it works and post my results.

Sure enough, an hour, I was logged out.  I was even active that whole time.   Is there a setting in SMF admin that I'm missing? - well, wait, why am I still logged in, in Safari..    hmm.

This is driving me nuts.   haha.

The problem is not your forum.  The problem is related to the way that your copy of Firefox on this computer is handling the cookie for the forum.

Since the problem is not your forum you are able to stay logged in indefinitely when you use Safari because Safari is not affected by the problem with your copy of Firefox and/or the cookie Firefox has for your forum.

SMF does not care which web browser you use to login.  SMF does not treat the cookie differently from one browser to the next.  This is not an SMF issue.

Maybe I'll reinstall FF.  That sounds like a lot of work to have to tell all of the users on our site having this problem, but I guess it's a start.   I'll see what that does.

Is your forum set up to use www.whatever.com and you access it as whatever.com? or vice versa?

robg2251

Sure enough, it was an SMF issue, it just wasn't suggested on here.   I dug through the admin and couldn't find the setting the first time.   We dug through again today and sure enough, problem solved.

Within the admin there are cookie settings.  When we updated to 2.0 we also updated our theme.  Apparently the cookie logged in setting reverted to 60 min.  We renamed the cookie and upped the time to a few thousand minutes, and since then  = problem solved.

Thanks for everyones help.
