Sorry I've been so long, I seem to be having real problems accessing the site, for some reason.

Have a look in your error-logs. Are there any clues, in there?

Just a few hours ago, my whole webserver crashed about this for some reason..
There are no error logs, I really don't get it..
You can access the site now though.

kat

No, I meant I'm having problems with THIS site. ;) Looks like a server in London's down. :(

If you go to Admin and, left-bottom, under "Maintenance", there's "Forum Error Log".

Nothing, at all, showing there?

Nope I already post that error log in this topic..
But then I created a fresh smf installation, because I thought it would help (thougt the error was because of the AEVA mod) but still no luck..

This really is an odd one.

Only other thing that comes to mind is the file permissions. If the relevant files are write-protected, maybe that might be causing this?

I somehow doubt that, though, because the messages are stored in the database, rather than any files.

I'm just throwing ideas around, really, in the hope that we get a "Eureka!" moment...

Hmm, now I sometimes can delete a message in a topic.. and sometimes it gives the message it can't find the page.. So I go back to the topic and refresh the site and the message is also gone..

But I can't delete the whole topic (still can't find page error).. If I try that it still is there, and sometimes all the topics are gone in that whole categorie.. And when I do a Forum check for statics etc in admin panel they are all back again..

You know... this sounds like it might be your browser, ED.

Have you tried using a different one?

Failing that, try emptying your cache/cookies.

With FireFox I got the message which I've not seen before with IE, here it is:

Databaseerror: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
File: /srv/www/vhosts/coole******.nl/httpdocs/Sources/RemoveTopic.php
Line: 368

[Translated to english from dutch]

Any solutions?

Edit: The line 368 says:       WHERE ID_TOPIC $condition", __FILE__, __LINE__);

kat

OK. Bit of a long-shot, this...

Do you have any mods installed?

If NOT, I wonder if replacing that file, from the SMF install package, might help you, with this...?

No mods installed.. I'm going to try to copy the original file on it..

EDIT: Nope, still no luck, same error message again..

kat

Now, then...

If you have NO mods installed, it might be worth trying this.

Try replacing every single file in your "sources" directory and everything inside the SMF default theme's directory with the same files from the SMF install package.

FFS take a full backup, first, though. Just in case.  ;)

Oh, dear.

That looks like a database error, to me.

I'm not up to speed with database stuff, I'm afraid.

Let's hope that someone else sees this and can help you, ED.

Take a look at this from the Online Manual:

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=1501.0

On shared servers, this is something that is quite common to see if the server is oversold.  Who is your host?

Any update on this issue?  Has your original problem of not being able to delete topics been solved?

Not yet, I'm going to look how to change wait_timeout and connect_timeout settings.
If that doesn't work i'll post is here again :P

kat

We'd be grateful, if you post if it DOES work, too!  :)

EvilDeeds

I found the my.cnf file on my server, but could not find the wait_timeout and connect_timeout settings..
