Many of my users are getting a blank screen after they send a pm, rather than the page loading the message index. Some are even reporting that they are being logged out. There are no errors in the error log, so I'm clueless.

Thanks.

I've had errors with certain parts of the forum with IE like PM's and membergroups in the admincp

Update:

I've been able to narrow this down a bit.

It is an IE specific problem. Users can get into their PM inbox, but cannot send messages. When the click on the link to send messages, the top part of the page loads, but Internet explorer gives an error message before the rest of the page can load. Some users are reporting being logged out of the website when the click on "send message".

At the same time, I have also found that a small percentage of my users (who use IE, but not All of my IE users are affected) are experiencing a problem when they view posts and PMs..... Apparently the post text isn't wrapping. I don't think these two problems are related, but I just thought I'd throw it out there, just in case......

Receiving several complaints on the exact same issue.   I'm confirming the errors and browsers just to be sure.

Is there a way to fix this?

GQCritic

It turns out that the problem was related to an ad code conflicting with something.

I removed the ad code and all worked fine.

What kind of ads do you run?  We use OpenX.  I can check that out, do you have any details on what code was causing the problem?

I use Adsdaq.

It probably was something with Javascript..... but I'm not sure what exactly...

LOL I did tell you that and I have reported it before but SMF haven't bothered letting me know if its a known problem or not just like here

There have been numerous of us ask the dreaded "why can't IE users send PM's" question.

I pulled the ads from my site and still have the problem. Oddly enough if I pull ALL the mods PM's will work again for IE users. Why? I dunno. But a pattern is starting to emerge here. If anyone here has a resolution for this please share it, you'll make quite a few people very happy .

Well they wanted it RC so you'd expect them to bring a quick fix out for this

IE with some of my users too.   Strange thing is it's not across the board.   What's even stranger is, one user is reporting they can not send PM's to only certain users.

Here's what happens though to the majority of the users complaining (using IE 7) - when they hit the reply button, they get an error of: http://monroetalks.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;f=inbox;pms9=62;=280 , which for me, brings me to a reply box.  But for them it gives them the error and says:  operation aborted.

I've suggested clearing cache, cookies, etc. just for kicks, but I don't think that resolved anything.   Hopefully we find a resolution to this!!    (by the way, it's not the ads causing this issue on our site).

I really don't think testing was carried out

Any update on this?  Should I create a new thread detailing our issues with users not being able to send PM's?

nightmarepatrol

I was doing some poking around and ran across this post that may (or may not) be related to the problem we are experiencing. I don't know if it relevant or not since I'm not not the best versed on the subject. However in looking at some of what is parsed on my linux/firefox PM page I can see where it might hold some water. I dunno, I'm not a real web developer, I'm a dopey sys admin.

The link

so, if that was a solution, is it something I can do - or do the SMF folks have to make that correction?

I'm getting more information from the users, as well as going to log into their account to check things out for myself tomorrow..  I will probably just make a new thread - I think everyone is avoiding this one because it was marked complete.

I don't think this has gone "unheard". This is after all a RC version and putting this release onto a production site is an "at your own risk" venture. My stupidity in not testing PM's with IE is my own fault (and I get to live with that now) but I never expected PM's to be a problem. Well that assume thing just smacked me in the face. The link I posted was not a solution but just described why IE crapped out. The change will have come in how the page is built, which means php changes that I won't/can't tackle.

Of course if I could switch my users away from IE I'd have no problems. Either way I'm sure that the developers have this on their to-do list.
