...ok its a long story, so please bare with me.....

1. I downloaded the large upgrade file, and uploaded the files as described, however I had issues uploading, as a) my adsl kept crashing, b) my ftp prog kept failing on files over 80K, and c) my host site also fell over.

2. I'm now certain I have all the files uploaded, and so proceeded with upgrade.

3. During the upgrade I kept getting failures, and restarted several times from the point I left off, eventually completing the upgrade.

On completion none of our own themes now work, and even the default one is corrupt, we have no new post or reply buttons, and getting into the admin area is nearly impossible.

Can anyone suggest any answers to the problems I have ?

What specific errors did you get? That would be really helpfull to know. It sounds like the upgrade process balked at some point during the operation. So to answer your questions I have to ask some.

1) did you take a backup of your site and database before you upgraded?

2) were you using any of the add on portal mods? I honestly don't know what would happen if they were installed, in theory they should not come over, but I removed TP anyway.

3) not all themes that were present under 1.x will work under 2.0. It tries to convert them but not everything theme wise will make it across. If your theme is supported under 2.0, it may be best to download and reinstall it.

If you can take the downtime (which it seems like your doing right now) I'd press the reset button and either restore back to 1.1.8 until everything you want is available. It is possible that diring the transfer process that some of your file(s) got borked. I would also strongly urge you to set up a subdomain (like dev.yourforum.com) and separate database to test 2.0 out with. before sticking it into production. (ask me about what I missed testing, I'm paying in users for it)

Too many times it balked ! Turns out our host were having DNS issues.

1) did you take a backup of your site and database before you upgraded? No but wasn't too bothered about losing things.

2) were you using any of the add on portal mods? I honestly don't know what would happen if they were installed, in theory they should not come over, but I removed TP anyway.  Yes we had a number of mods on the site.

3) not all themes that were present under 1.x will work under 2.0. It tries to convert them but not everything theme wise will make it across. If your theme is supported under 2.0, it may be best to download and reinstall it. It failed to convert any of the ones we had created (our own).

I've managed to sort the default theme, it seems it was down to the languages folder containing lots of languages we don't use. I deleted all the files, and then uploaded the ones in the upgrade file ONLY, and this sorted the default theme out, so at least now its usable, I will look at replacing the language files in our own themes tomorrow, when I have cooled off a bit.

I won't declare it fixed just now, but will see how things go, but it looks like it was multiple problems mainly on internet connection and host problems, added to by the fact that the the upgrade doesn't delete files in folders it just upgrades the ones present.

Hi cleavers1066.  It appears you had about everything that could go wrong when you started your upgrade.  Glad you were able to work some of the issues out.  There are quite a few themes that work well with 2.0 available on the Theme site.  If this is solved, feel free to mark it as solved by clicking the Mark Topic Solved link at the bottom of the page under the linktree.
