Pinching Web Traffic

I'm not claiming anything in this post is true. When it comes to search engines I'm
ignorant. What I am posting is based on my own observations and how I perceived
them could be totally wrong.

A common trend I have noticed on individual smf sites is a lot of them contain a "Showcase board" (no further explanation needed). The question I am putting forth is, "Does this actually help their sites traffic when you post your site from search engines more than it helps you?"

My Observations
My site has a somewhat unique title, "DarkVoid Poetry". Periodically I will do a search on my sites title in a search engine. Example: Google.

The results are this:
1 My Site
2 A site I described my site and posted a link on.
3 A site I described my site and posted a link on.
4 A site I described my site and posted a link on.

....And so on.
So as you can see by me making a post on their site about my site, their site now appears in my sites search results.

How To Put This Info Into Use
We could add a showcase board to our own site... or.... possibly something like "My Favorite links".

Subject: Their Sites Title
Message Body: (View page source) Their description of their site(?) + link

Now your site will come up when a ie: "google search" is done on their site.

Prickish method: We could also install the "no follow" mod so even when posting their link it is no benefit to them search engine wise.

If all of this holds true I would also suspect in some circumstances if optimized correctly you could even have a better rank than their site, when searching their title. Example: searching their website title:

Your site
Their site
Some other result.

Am I wrong in thinking this? or do you think it is true?
