mod installation

i tried installing 2 mod's on my forum and the first time is gave me a list of what i needed to set rw, then it did not install it came na\\back with this "You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!    "
how am i suppose to know what files i am suppose to set rw on a temp basis
i had just installed another package 5 mins before

SMF ver 2.0 rc1
package folder is set rw-rw-rw

create a folder inside packages called temp
and chmod that to 777 aswell

Then try installing the mod.

If chmod to 777 doesn't work try 775 of 755.
