URL Links keep being reformatted

Perhaps I don't understand...
I want to put a link into a post, using the [ url ] [ / url ] tags.

And so I do, and I format it thusly:
[ url = http://website.com ] name [ / url ]

However, it is always reformatting it to this crap here (it's one of the last posts in this thread... currently last, but that could change):

Admin -> Edit Features and Options
Expand the "Layout Settings" section
Set "Break up words with more letters than" to 0
