Hello,
Forgive me if this has been asked before, but...
I have the following error when I am trying to install a mod
All the correct files/folder has the proper permissions:

An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

TIA

Well..
I have asked my host to CHOWN all files to the correct ownerships as the tutorial mentioned. Their words were:
Quoteif you wish
, but that has been over 12 hours and still no go!  :(

Is there something else I can do on my side?

I would like to get this resolved ASAP!  :)

Can someone please help me with this?  :(

I am getting a lot of BS from my host and they say that some on here do not know what they are talking about!!
Here is an example and remember this is my host and not me  :)

Quotechown - is NOT the correct solution - who ever told you this needs to learn how unix works and stop offering wrong advise.
the forums are full of good and bad information - you have to weed the idiots and bad stuff out a task that is not always clear

I downloaded the repair settings file and it showed all my directories and paths were wrong!  :(
All of them were correct..why did it mentioned that a recommended one when all was correct?

Also..where is the "temp" directory located? I do not have one!

About to pull out the rest of my hair from this bald head and this is driving me crazy, because I have never had a problem like this before.

TIA

Well, if the CHOWN is not set correctly then you can NOT change the file permissions within the directory.

You may need to create a directory called temp within the package folder and then CHMOD that to 777 and try to install the mod again.

Also, just out curiosity ask your host what owner is set for the directory now...
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.

quietstorm

Thanks for the information and I awaiting for a answer for the question I submitted to my host!
doh..I dunno!!!  :)

Also, here is a screen shot that has not been in the CP!!  Tried it and still a no go!!  :)

If anyone knows a work around and their host is OC Solutions, PLEASE let me know ASAP!!

TIA

What are the error log entries when you try to install a mod?  Also the CHOWN suggest was just that, a suggest.  It might not be the case in your situation.  But your host can test when/if they did it and see if any files were affected and thus needed to be run.

Have you tried all solutions outlined in that linked thread?

Also the screenshot above is not from SMF?

Thanks for answering this  :)
Yes I have answered all the questions outlined.
The screenshot is from my CP and it does not work!
I have talked to my host and you can see above in reply #6 the answer I was given.
The reason for this host.. is because they offer FFmpeg!

The following screenshots will show you what I get in SMF, maybe not in the correct order tho!

Not sure how you get to the Installation Actions screen.  You should be able to proceed from there?

Also you didn't mention any error log entries you are getting.

Thanks for answering..
I am not getting no error log, that is why this is so strange!!  :)
Still waiting for an answer from my host!

But if you are getting to the Installation Actions screen, the package should be a simple click away from installation and past any 'An error has occurred' errors that are stopping you from installing a mod.

Hello..
Just a quick note..

All is working now and I am pleased that it is!  :)

I want to thank all that was involved in trying to help me especially
Rumbaar  for his time and patience.

As of this writing, I do not how it was resolved because of no word from
my  host or it just happened..magically!  :)

Thanks again

Rumbaar

Well I didn't do much, but you're welcome.

If you didn't do anything and now it's working, it would seem your host actually did something and fixed it on their end.  It's hard to tell sometimes, but sometimes they just don't want to admit they haven't configured things correctly and fix them when they realise.

But as long as it's working now, hopefully it will continue.

I am bringing this up again!!
I changed host and they too say it is a script error and not them!

Does anyone know of anything else I can do to solve this!

TIA

quietstorm

A thought game to my mind..
Would this be affected if I installed SMF in the root instead of
a directory of some sort?   :)

If not, I wish there is a reason for this and it can be resolved!!

Again..like in my previous posts/screen shots, all went well up until
you click to install the mod/script!  :(

I am ready again to pull some hair out from this balding head.

Any help would be greatly appreciative!

Remember...
Shadow82x advised me about this and so did you in previous posts!!  :)
And..it did not work, because of my old host thought someone
did not know what they were talking about.
NOW, with my new host..different story and he is lost at this!!
So, I might be SOL  :(

Thanks tho for the input again.
Any more ideas???  Anyone???
