Users can't send PM's in 2.0 RC1

What started out with a couple users not being able to send PM's after we updated from 1.1.7, is now beginning to pile up to several.  Some were able to send PM's just fine, and now they are receiving the following error (Internet Explorer only so far):

Internet Explorer cannot open up the internet site http://...... (see screenshot)
Operation aborted

Is there anyway I can fix this?  Can you just reinstall the PM system or is this a bigger problem than I'm aware of?   We've tested this in IE - even logged in as the user that is having the issue and tested theirs, we can't seem to replicate it, but every day I'm getting another person reporting that they can no longer send PM's.  Let me know if anyone has a solution to this - and having people switch to Firefox isn't an option, I've tried suggesting it.

and is that a problem just on IE ?

I think its going to come down to a jscript problem but where its at is hard to track down with all the ad code you have.

It works in Firefox but I get a jscript error which may cause IE to throw a fit.

Any recommendations?  Is this something we might be able to get in there and fix ourselves?   Did something go wrong with our installation?

Its an IE6 and IE7 bug.

We've had a few users report it on sending pms and manage boards.

So far though, I have been unable to replicate it myself though in those browsers.

So, basically we're stuck with it?   I don't mind, it hasn't affected me,  I just have a forum full of angry people who refuse to switch to Firefox.  Can we expect this to be repaired in the full release of 2.0?   

By chance, is there anyway to pull the PM system from a prior version and install that?   I'm just pulling at strings here.. this is a pretty huge error to just say "sorry folks, you're just not going to be able to send PM's"..    I agree with others that said we should have tested the RC1 prior to installing it live.  The risks you take using a pre-released version of software.   

Besides this, I'm happy with the 2.0 RC1.  SMF has been a great forum, I'm still glad we picked it over the few others out there.    Thanks for the help gang.. if anyone else can offer any info on fixing this - I'm all ears.   I seem to be getting a new complaint everyday on my forum.. I'm thinking there ganging up to revolt on me.

Well I'd like to fix every outstanding bug for 2.0 naturally.

IIRC its not limited to any smf version. There have been some reports of it on 1.1.x aswell.

Alright.  I've uninstalled all of my mods and have asked the users who are experiencing the issue to test it again and report back.  I'll post the results.   Thanks.

Disabled all of my mods and sure enough, people can PM again.   I'm going to try and narrow it down to which one is causing the problem.  I just turned back on the Ajax quick reply, and haven't heard any complaints, so I'm ruling that one out.   If I come across which one might be causing it, I'll post back.    I guess for now, this topic has been resolve for me.

I disabled all my mods. The last one that I uninstalled was PortaMx and viola, PMs' work. What I find peculiar is that I uninstalled Simple Portal for the same exact reason (PM's not working). So, There is something that both packages are doing when the page is generated. I also believe that whatever they are pushing down to foul up IE ( which is like tripping a octagenerian) is on the same order as what the other mods are doing. I have use packages by the author of PortaMx and they have been solid, so I don't think it's anything out of line happening in the code. There is a common thread somewhere. However, I'm not a PHP coder so I might be able to find it by the time SMF4.0 come out.
