Does SMF have an option whereby users can subscribe to a thread?

On every other forum I have been on in the last few years...when one posts in a thread or starts one, one is automatically "subscribed" to that thread so that they get receive an automatic notification of new replies posted to that thread.

I know that SMF doesn't have this out of the box (which I find quite out of line with what has come to be the norm with forum software these days) but is there a way to relatively easily add such an option?  Perhaps to change the PHP code?

This is a deal breaker for me in terms of using SMF as forum software.  There is no way that relying on each user to remember to click on "Additional options..." and then clicking on immediate replies is going to cut it.

I absolutely need automatic thread subscription with the option to opt out verses...not being subscribed by default unless one opts in.

If this is not relatively easy to implement can someone recommend another forum software that is like SMF that has that option?

Thanks.

SMF does have it by standard :)
You can enable notifications for a thread ;)

I dont have my language set to English at the moment, but if i'm right, it will say "Notification" next to the "Reply" button just below the last post in the topic :)

It's below the last post, and above the first, it says 'Notify' between Reply and Add Poll :)
