Password protect a board

I have a product that would go well with a forum thread. I use Paydotcom so I'd like to be able to have the new client have a password he/she can use to enter the board after registering. That way I can automate it.

I can give the new client the password on the thank you page along with instructions for registering, but I'd like to password protect the specific board where they can get the product and add to it if they wish

This is not a default SMF feature and I don't know any mod that does this.
I can move this to Mod Requests or SMF Coding Discussion if you like.

Well, there is a mod, but it looks kinda outdated, and it's in a beta stage.

You can contact Dragoon for more information about the mod above, or its support thread.

Would it not be better to create a separate membergroup that can access the board, and then give it to members as a secondary group?

That way there is no password to remember, and they cannot give the password to others.

Namecheap (domains)
Fastmail (e-mail)
Linode (VPS)

Only if I didn't have to do it by hand

This could be handled by the subscriptions feature, although currently the only backend is for paypal

That's great I love Paypal

Can I combine the subscription feature with Paydotcom or is that out of this boards realm?

If Paydotcom has an API for integration with web scripts, then someone could write a payment handler for SMF for paydotcom
