infrequent Connection Problems

I'm using 1.1.11.

I moved hosting a couple of weeks ago and until last night everything was OK.

yesterday evening we had around 500 members online, not sure how many guests but typically there are 3 or 4 times as many guests as members.

on some occasions members were getting the message:
"Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."

could this be because of the number of visitors to the forum? or should 1000+ visitors be no problem?

would upgrading to 2.X help or make no difference?

Not an uncommon problem on shared servers.  Not much you can do about, other than contacting support or moving to a better host.
