Is it possible to restrict the posting of URLs for new members?

We occasionally have a problem with posters signing up and then posting one or two posts, before it becomes clear that they are only there to add links to their own web sites. They are not all 'obvious' spammers and I don't want to just ban everyone who does this, but I would like to have some kind of control on the posting of urls.

So. Is it possible to restrict the posting of urls for new members? I.E. Until a users has posted, for example, 10-15 messages, the urls are not converted?

Thanks.

I suppose what we are really asking is if we can selectively switch off UBB code on a group permissions basis Which doesn't appear to be possible with the basic SMF install. I know that vBulletin has some kind of implementation along these lines, I can't remember exactly how they implement it though.

Yeah, I remember going to devshed.com (I think) and not being able to post a link until I had a certain amount of posts.

Interesting idea.  It could fairly easily be made based on permissions, I suppose.

Have you looked at the topic I posted on how you can easily create your own permissions?

I haven't. I'll have a look for it - or could you perhaps please link to it?

Thanks for that.

I have read that twice and I suppose I vaguely undestand the principles (possibly), but I know for fact that I have absolutely no idea how to do what I would like to do - i.e. restrict the posting of URLs for new members.

I'll have to hope that this feature is included in the next upgrade, or someone clever likes it enough to write a mod. ;)
