The 'Show unread topics since last visit' always produces an error page with a further link to 'View all unread posts' (or something to that effect), which when clicked lists all unread posts. But why is there the intermediary error page?

Will need a test username and password to test that feature...

or maybe just post the error message here!?

Works ok for me... I see a couple of posts since my last visit, and no errors!

What error are you getting!?

Are you using SSI.php or similar on your main site?

goofy2feet

No, I'm not.

The message I get is that "There are no new threads since your last visit" even though there clearly are.

Clearly since your last visit?

Yes, "No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics."
That's exactly what it says.

Ah I see...

you seem to have a bit of confusion between the two links and their purpose...

OK... say you're not on the forum. People post 5 posts on your board. You come along and click 'Show unread topics since last visit'... It WILL show you those five posts, as they are there since your last visit. If you view 1 of them... then leave the forum... come back the next day and click the same link you will not see the other 4 posts that you didn't read, because they are not new since your last visit... they are still unread however, which is why the next link you see 'Click here to try all unread topics', brings them up...

Clear as mud!?!? ;)

goofy2feet

I understand you explanation but NO, no confusion here. The same thing happens every time - the 'read unread posts since last visit' link never produces anything but this error page. Obviously it's not a fatal error as you can just click the 'All unread posts' link and see what you want to see, but some of my members have complained that it seems a click too many...

ok... I think the 'problem' here is that well.... there are actually NO unread posts since your last visit!!

I just logged in with that test account... and tried the link. I got unread replies since my last visit.... which was... 3 days ago. There were only 5 or 6 posts, most of which were today. If your users keep checking this link... then there aren't going to be any new posts. The next link (show ALL unread topics) will show them anything they haven't read... no matter when it was posted.

here's a screen shot...

note the posts are only on the 20th of march and today (22nd March). Thats all the posts in 3 days.

goofy2feet

Yes, I know my bbs is not so busy yet, no need to rub my face in it... ;)

Anyway, we've worked out the problem. The people who were having trouble with the 'show unread posts since last visit' link were all those who chose the 'forever' option when signing in. Those who have  been signing in 'forever' never got any unread posts showing from that link. Is there anyway to change the default from 'forever' to '1 hour' in the admin panel, or do I have to edit the code to do that?

Thanks for your replies by the way...
