Hello there. I'm a developer of a fairly large forum community and we've been trying to tackle something for a while, and the idea we have had is this:

To create a Q&A section where members can post new topics, but not reply to topics. Only Moderators and Admins, etc could reply to these topics. This is to both to cut through a little bull that comes up now and then and get quick and simple, direct to the point answers to quick questions from our members.

We know it is just easiest to delete replys by other members, but we'd like to just take away this permission to reply to topics so as to avoid any confusion or harsh feelings towards the mods/admins.

Is there a way currently do this? Please let me know. If not, I'd really like to see a system where you can give each usergroup individual permissions on individual boards. Such as:

Q&A Board:

Regular User: Post Topics Only

Moderators: All Permissions

Etc
