When I try to edit the permissions it will let me make changes but will not allow me to apply them.

This is a result of installing the Arcade mod only every thing else will install fine

the error file is sub-package.php

2: copy(D:\www_http_sever\one\htdocs\myathensfriends.com\forum_myathensfriends.com/Themes/default/default/images/english/Thumbs.db) [<a href='function.copy'>function.copy</a>]: failed to open stream: Permission denied

check the ownership of the files - you may have to get your web host to CHOWN them.

I am running my own server/host running windows server 2003.  I try to change permissions via windows explorer and via ftp.  ftp allows me to do so but will not apply the changes (apply is greyed out)

Could I just remove all file from the /www_server_http/sitename/forum folder and re install it and still have all of the member info the same ( I dont want to delete any members) would this work or is there a simple way to fix this error?

Thank you for all replies

okay update...

I renamed the directory on forum site (local hard drive) after wich I copied all of the install files to the directoy and run a new install.php again and everything was the same as far as members and topics. Now I run the arcade mod and it installed fine. run arcade_sql.php and went well.  Now I get this error msg when I click on the arcade tab...

An Error Has Occurred!
Games Directory is invalid

I still have all of the original folder and file if I need to go back to them

OK.... Seems there are a lot of people out there needing help.  I have only received one reply (I appreciate it Tony) from 6 post in 2 topics in a week.  I have found if you look at all topics and read them you will find you can fix most problem your self rather than wait for someone with intrest in your topic for help.  Its frustrating watching other people have there topics reply to as yours just keeps getting lower on the list.  Also if you would like any help or information I might be able to give to any newbie just email me and I will be more than happy to help.  The folks of Simple Machines have done a great job building there forum for us to have as a free source.  I had zero problem installing it and getting it to work.  I ran into problems when I install new mods.

As for my problem this is how I fixed it...

I renamed the directory on my host/server from my-site/forum to my-site/forum__ then I created the new directory and placed the NEW SMF file in the new forum directory.  I then run the install.php again and followed the installation ((MAKE SURE TO USE THE SAME SQL DATABASE IF YOU WANT ALL OF YOUR MEMBERS INFO TO STILL BE THERE )) Now I can not be sure that this is the best way to fix this problem but it worked for me (Just took a chance) Search Google ..........

Sorry, Windows has its own permissions system - the one in NTFS - and most FTP clients have no control over it.

Another way would be to upload those files from the upgrade package over your current files.

But, this was all posted today and I'm sorry you're frustrated about the response regarding chmod's - he probably didn't see the windows style paths.

hello,

I would like to first of all commend all who is supporting these topics..

Yes I was frustrated but not upset.  I do understand that you have a lot of questions to ans.  And I don't know how many people are helping here and I did post last week on this issue.  I just used my advanced more than other users knowledge and I did a lot of reading and found most of the ans. I was looking for.  How ever i found for myself that the fix was in a clean install using the same SQL database.  My comment was just suggesting to others to look for the ans in other threads,  because the ans. is here, and if I can be of any help to this forum or anyone using it please let me know via email or web site at http://myathensfriends.com

ps maybe some direction on this issue with windows (NTFS) having its own permission system for CHMOD

Thank for the great job
