Changes to source code when converting from 2.2.x to SMF2?

Hi,

I've been wondering for some time now if the SMF conversion tool from IPB 2.2.x makes any changes to SMF's source code and its database schema (base install, no additional mods). Mainly because of the difference between password encryptions and/or other database differences.

Cheers.

No changes to SMF source code is made. The conversion tool actually copies data from the IPB database, changes it to work with SMF and then inserts it into the SMF database.
SMF itself has a password array in its Login file that attempts to detect other password storing methods (Including IPBs method of hashing) and then updates your password hash to SMFs format.

Excellent!

Because many of the other forums available make changes either to their source code or to the database schema, making it a living hell when it comes down to upgrading to a newer version.

I shall be moving our community section to SMF.

Thanks for your reply!
