A few notes before we start

  • You need a backup of your forum BEFORE the upgrade to 2.0.  If you don't have this, the downgrade is hard, but not impossible.  This guide does not have the hard but not impossible section to it.
  • You will lose all MODs and themes.  Keep in mind that there are some themes that don't work on 1.1.9, but work on 2.0.  I'd highly suggest picking a theme for your 1.1.9 forum before you downgrade.

You may be reading this topic because you want to downgrade to 1.1.9 for one reason or another.  This topic (hopefully :P) will save you some time.

What you need:

Replace your SMF database.  This is easily done through phpMyAdmin.  You may also want to check out How do I restore the database data?

Delete current SMF files  Easily done through a FTP client.  You may want to save the attachments and avatar folder, so that the files aren't lost, just make sure that the new (empty) folders don't overwrite the current folders.  You may also want to save Settings.php (in the main forum directory).  This will eliminate the last step.

Upload new SMF files  Check out the download page for these.  Upload them to the same directory as the old files.

Run repair_settings.php  This will make sure the paths of the themes, sources, and database are all correct.

There you go!  Your forum is now back to 1.1.9!

Thanks for the tutorial, however, this appears to be a topic seeking support so I'll mark it solved to indicate that no support is required.

Oh, sorry.  You can move this to a different board if it is better placed there.

Nice guide, thanks for making it available:)
A couple of notes however: it might be useful to specify along with "Delete current SMF files", that one should save the forum's avatars / attachments.
Also, perhaps it would be useful if "phpMyAdmin" is a link.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

No, it's fine here, it's just that it was appearing on supporttopics.php.

Agreed, and there's really no need to delete Settings.php, leaving the file there eliminates the need to run repair_settings.php

No idea that existed!  Thanks for the link!

And added some changes.  If I get a spare moment, I'll try to figure out how to convert to 1.1.9 without a database backup, but that might take some more time :P

Nope, because I'm not on the support team.  Always wondered how you guys did those doc links in seconds, and I was googling them and using [url] tags :D
