Change text colours in a custom theme?

Hey,

I am brand new at admining pretty much any kind of board, so i hope you bear over with me.
We have set up a SMF using the Helios_multi custom theme.

We find it a little difficult to differensiate the colors for whether a topic / board has new posts or not. Does anyone know how i can change this? I found a link in the admin -> Current theme -> Modify the style.css file. (colors, fonts, etc.).
I am however unfamiliar with code, so i cant find the code for the text in question, and am not sure how to change it if i do.

Anyone feel like helping a newbie?

The color? You are meaning you want to change the post title color if there's a new post?

If you want to do something like that, you'd edit the MessageIndex.template.php using the $topic variable.
