i know this is an awfully easy mod to do but i'm a bit concerned having to mess with the code everytime i want to turn this feature off.

This would be very easy to code as a admin menu selectable option.

Well, I'm not writing the software, just pointing out that if it wasn't a built in feature, any one of the numerous modders could write it very quickly.
