Hi!

What I whant to do is to move my forum context (members, boards, topics, permissions, pm...) to another DB. The other DB is a blank new installation of SMF.

So basicly what I need is to know which DB tables to import?

I'll advice you to import the whole database as SMF tables relate with each other.
If you want post, boards and topics, you need:

  • _attachments
  • _boards
  • _boards_permissions
  • _categories
  • _log_boards
  • _notify
  • _log_polls
  • _membergroups
  • _messages
  • _polls
  • _poll_options
  • _pm_recipients

...and maybe others I've missed :).

Up. I still need info on these topic. I have my forum with lots of plugins and a custom theme. Which I cannot upgrade. So I am planning to install the latest RC and transfer the info to the new installation. All I need is members, board, posts, pm's, avatars and attachments.

Use a database management application like phpMyAdmin (What is phpMyAdmin?) to export the following tables.

  • _attachments
  • _boards

  • _board_permissions

  • _categories

  • _membergroups
  • _members

  • _messages
  • _permissions
  • _personal_messages
  • _pm_recipients

You'd need all of those because SMF uses relational database tables, you might need more than those but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

What about:

admin_info_files
ban_groups
ban_items
custom_fields
group_moderators
links
moderators
profile_albums
profile_comments
profile_pictures
topics

And is it sufficient to just copy the old data in to the new DB considering the old forum is RC2?

Make a backup before attempting anything.  Then you might try importing the old database and running the upgrade.php to insure the database is upgraded as well.
