My goal with Aeva is to have a "perfect" version at one point, that will change as little SMF code as possible.

haha  I know mate, thats why I have to read all your posts, to know what and when youre changing something lol
All the best for the new year mate :)

Only the forum admin(s) can use the html tag. There is an html permission mod which could be used to achieve that capability for the user and control it somewhat for the admin:

Yep, by default only the admin should be able to use html tags, I would never give that to any other group.
But thats just me ;)
Do NOT give admin and/or ftp details to just anybody, see if they are trust worthy first!!  Do your homework ;)

I'm quite sure they would disallow that kind of videos/images if they could.
You can't be serious? The moment a search engine does this, they are commiting suicide - sex/porn is one of the most searched for things on the web, there's no way in a billion years Google would ever try and censor it in the way you suggested.

@weightman> Thanks for the notice. I was wondering why SMF had this tag enabled by default. Means I can safely let the tag enabled then. Still, that doesn't change anything about the text in bold ;)

@Relyana> Safe Mode, eh...? Oh my, you're in for a lot of pain. Safe Mode is my own personal nemesis when it comes to developing mods.

@Sabre> I think I'll rework the xml files even more today... I really want to make them as short as possible, and do all of the calls from within the Aeva files. I know that in the future I may have to add more custom code in new areas. Here's hoping that the concept I have for the next big updates (aeva tag + page-wide preg_replace on the output buffer) will help reduce the number of internal SMF changes to the minimum. (For instance, with page-wide replacements, I should be able to embed attachments without any changes to the code. Yippie.)
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

New release!
Version 5.1.32 has absolutely no new feature that I can think yo! Yay!

So why release this? Because currently there don't seem to be a lot of beta testers around, and I'm anxious to know whether the many changes I made to the install files will work for everyone. These changes are needed for several reasons: (1) be more respectful of the SMF code itself, (2) remove ugly Aeva code and replace it with, guess what, good-looking Aeva code, (3) power to the geeks!, (4) I need to make the install code mine, so that it's easier for me to add new stuff later, in case I need it.

Most notably, I made the Modifications tab (in Admin area) a bit more strict because earlier versions did not respect the "silent" guidelines for that place, so it may not install for you if you already have a mod there that doesn't respect the guidelines either. (Or if you're installing/uninstalling in the wrong order.)

I also moved a lot of data from the install files to the Aeva files, in order to help further installs for users who do a manual installation every time. (Less data in install files = less data to update manually.)

What else..? I don't know. Please test, if you're curious. If you're not, then no need to update. No new sites added today. No new features, as I said earlier.

Also, for users who had issues with YouTube HQ videos, it seems that YouTube recently addressed the issue on their side, so now HQ videos will always work. Good news!

Throw away  SMF Media Gallery fix the problem.

Thanks.
Using the word "throw away" isn't exactly very nice to me... I've worked really hard, full time, on SMF Media Gallery for over 2 months... That's why I told you it would be best to update, because I know v1.5.1 (I didn't work on v1.0.x) interfaces finely with Aeva (it actually uses Aeva for some of its work).

Oh, well... I guess you're not going to take my word for it anyway :(

We also have this in SMF Media Gallery...

Quote- Watersign.
We don't have this. I'm not sure it's in our to-do-list. I personally feel that it's wrong to add watermarking to a picture, generally. It's a state of mind I guess. I think that if you want to watermark something, you'll do it on a per-picture basis, which you will generally do through Photoshop or similar.

Quote- That is all.
We do this, too :D

A white screen is more likely due to something other than a conflict...
Does this happen at install time, or after installation, and if yes -- on what pages? All of them, or only the Gallery pages?
(Hmm we should be discussing this over at the SMG topic really...)

Thanks for working hard on the update Nao!  The redirect works fine on 1.1.7   8)

Redirect? It didn't work before? I suppose it did?

Anyway--good to know there are no problems related with the new install files :) Phew!

@Relyana> Safe Mode, eh...? Oh my, you're in for a lot of pain. Safe Mode is my own personal nemesis when it comes to developing mods.

Nope  :) The only issue I have now is with the package manager. If I upload files via cPanel or via ftp directly the files ownership is the correct one, if I try to do it via the package manager I get the 99 "owner". Same thing happen if I try to upload avatars via the Profile feature. Anyway I'm getting offtopic here  :P

Back on topic ... The conversion script did it all. No need to update all those videolinks. Thanks for saving my time   :D

Nao 尚

@Roarin> Okay :)

@Relyana> This is exactly what safe mode does... It forbids PHP from accessing files created with a process that uses a different ID. In your case, the only way to enable package installation is by specifying your FTP account settings in the package manager when they're asked.

Re: the links, you're welcome. Glad to know it worked. Hopefully you'll like Aeva :)

Okay good :)

For next week, I have several things to implement... I won't be able to do them all in a week, so I'll have to choose. Can anyone give their opinion on which they'd like to see come out first?

- Custom site section (a Subs-Aeva-Custom.php file that you will add yourself, never gets replaced when updating the mod, adds a "Custom" section to the site list with your own sites.)
- Real Admin template + site list separate from settings (self-explained... Requires more install file modifications.)
- Aeva tag - allows to give you greater control over how videos will show; also allows me to do a page-wide replace which should improve overall performance, and enable you to easily add videos in places that are not normally parsed for BBC code, such as directly inside the template, etc. It's the biggest feature of all, and it could turn out to be as annoying to some users than exciting to others. I may need to do a poll on my website for it. (Requires more install file modifications as well.)

What do you think?

- Aeva tag
I think it would be great if you could allow the admin to choose what the tag is called... [AEVA] means nothing to my users but if I could rename it to [VIDEO] then they would remember to use it in future.

Nao 尚

Yeah I'm not sure yet about the name...
It could as well be [ae], because it's short and stands for "auto embed"...

Sure but my users still wouldn't figure that out without being told and therefore could struggle to remember it.

I just hope you do allow us to change it, I guess in the end it might just be another edit I'll have to do in a code, that's like 3 edits I have to do on every upgrade now lol

Remember it...? They wouldn't have to remember it. Why should they remember it?
It's Aeva, you know. "Auto embed" is the thing. So it will *always* auto-embed videos. It's not one of those crappy things where people have to take out the video ID and use it in a custom tag... Blahhh!! I hate these.
Nah -- it'll be like this:
- User posts a YouTube URL
- Video appears
- User wants to center-align the video
- User quick-edits their message
- User sees: [aeva]youtube link[/aeva]
- User edits this way: [aeva align=center]youtube link[/aeva]
- User saves
- User is happy ever after

Heck, I would have done this tag thing long ago if I wasn't annoyed by the fact that if a user uninstalls Aeva, they will see the tags in plain view... Which can be fixed by using a custom-made script, of course. (Or adding a "Uninstall aeva tags" feature in the admin area, that could be used before uninstalling.)
Simply, it's annoying :P

yeah.. aligning are just minimal thing.. If we could make a feature that we can pull it off the post using ajax.. or make the embed video skewed lol.. kidding  :P
