I cant get working the following Implementations:

myvideo.de
clipfish.de
gametrailers.com
gamevideos.com

All others seem to work  O:)

*EDIT*

I just rechecked with IE7 - normally i use Firefox 2.0.7 - every Video-URL works with IE7 - seems to be a Firefox-Issue ?!

*EDIT2*
gametrailers.com-link does not work with IE7.

*EDIT3*
sevenload.com works in Firefox - in IE7 i get 'video not available'

*EDIT4*
Myspacetv - the url which isn shown in the browser-bar works (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?....), but using the Video-URL-Link which is shown under the Video (http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?...) does not work.

Awesome mod! Thank you so much for simplifying this. Now I can close the thread where every no0b wants to know how to embed a youtube video, even though it's already been explained fifty times.

.....and instead open up new threads where the noobs want to embed porn tube videos! (see above)
you know, if we could embed youporn life would just about be perfect eh.

How 'bout it karl? Give us the pr0n! :D

My last Post now even seems confusing to me - i started a Test in our Forum and let the ppl report.

One Thing for sure - the sevenload.com shows up in FF, but not in IE7.

I'll post the results later.

*EDIT*

dailymotion is out (the embed video is isnt the same one as in the page url).
Sorry - i cant code at all, but i need to ask this:
Could you 'intercept' the embedded URLS for the supported Video-Pages within the Posts ?

karlbenson

Thanks All Massive.

I'm testing/working on them all right now. v1.2 will be posted later.
I'm testing every single link in IE7/Opera/Firefox.

Re: Dailymotion, I'm not supporting any sites where the url in the address bar won't work.
This is because
a) it requires users fishing for the url in the embed code.
b) it would cause confusion for users

karlbenson

Ok, here we go again. v1.2 now uploaded.

1.2 - 20th October 2007
o Fixed Gametrailers
o Added support for old style LiveLeak links
o Added support for different style Google video links
o Fixed Cellfish (their current player doesnt work, so switched to older one)
o Fixed Glumbert
o Fixed Gamevideos (although, it won't work in Firefox still for some reason)

Every video site has been tested in my IE7, Firefox 2, Opera are work (apart from Gamevideos in Firefox)
Here is my test set of links that were used. It is not recommended to post the whole set to test them as it crashed all three of my testing browsers doing that.

Matthew Schenker

This looks excellent!

So, with this mod, can I uninstall my previous video mods -- "GoogleVideo BBCode by Yakuza" and "YouTube BBC Tag (XHTML Compliant)"?

Here's a list of my installed modifications.  Do you see any conflicts?
Rename Topic 1.0.2
MessagePreviewOnHover 1.5
FontandSizeDropdown 1.1
Member Color Link 2.0.0
EmailFlash 2.0
Ignore user 1.3
Inline Attachments 1.0.4.2
Image Popup 1.0
URL Popup

A few posts ago, someone said there might be a conflict with the URL Popup mod.  Is that true?

Great work!

karlbenson

The ONLY mod that there is a known conflict with is my Anonym.to mod.

You should UNINSTALL the youtube mod if it is NOT my youtube mod, because ALL the other youtube mods have a security vulnerability.

Other than that any other video clip mods can remain installed, they will be take precedence over this mod, and then this mod will convert any links that werent converted.

Matthew Schenker

karlbenson,
So it sounds like I would be fine uninstalling the other modifications and just using the one you created.
Thanks for the hard work.
Matt

Don't know if this is possible, but how about adding a line for limiting the number of videos a user can add in a single post?

billyevil

I'm really impressed with this mod. I posted on my site about it. It's amazing how it makes everything so easy. Thank you so much.

hmm... a possible DOS on your forum?

wow...could we do something to limit the number of video links that would be translated?

I wouldnt mind limiting the translation to just one

karlbenson

It would not be a risk or be a realistic DDOS attack since Flash is client side, so it would crash/slow a users browser.
But not effect the server at all.

I'm not sure if it would be possible to add a limit.

The php function preg_replace has the ability to set a limit since php 4.0.2.
So I could set it to 10 for example. But it would be 10 PER supported site.

In order to set a max limit for all the sites it would be necessary to use 'count', however that was only added in php 5.1.0 so alot of people might not have a new enough version of php.
http://uk3.php.net/preg_replace

rummie

well, DOS means simply, Denial of Service so a post with lots of embedded video links (which as you've said crashes the browser) would deny service to those affected individuals.

Granted, you can do something similar by linking off line to huge graphics on a slow server via the IMG tag (which is why I disable it)

a thought occurred to me...

we can bypass all the $count issue and simply count the number of <embed> or <object> tags are found in the resulting buffer, and, if it is more than 'n' return the buffer to its initial state, optionally adding a message "TOO MANY VIDEO LINKS'

(that way we avoid triggering an error when used in conjunction with some other embedding mod or Admin supplied HTML tags)

why it is not working in my smf 1.1.4 with bbc enabled?
it just shows links.

the youtube mod works for me but this one does not.

With the latest Version (1.2) everything seems to be fine - some ppl (like me) had problems with Firefox but it seems to be buggy Flash-Installations.

But now some ppl complain, that they had postet a link by purpose and dont want it to be embedded in the Post  :-\

Any plans to add smth like a 'Board-Permission' for embedding those Links ?
Or could you perhaps add a flag to put before the Video-URL so it dont get parsed ?

karlbenson

@ Forty.
Are you using v1.2 of the mod?
Are you just posting a link like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXCbxcY7YFU
Is the link showing as an active link (which if clicked will take you to the clip)
Does it just show as blank? What browser are you using?  Tested in IE/O/FF

@ Rummie
FYI This mod uses <object> tags only. <embed> tags are not part of the spec and not valid code.
Counting <object> tags isnt practical because
a) not all the objects might be in the same post
b) other flash objects if used on the page would be counted in the buffer. And would impact other video mods.

The solution would probably be to use the 'count' and work in some check of what php version your using. Requiring minimum 5.1.0 for the count function to work.

@ Allmassive
No plans to add per-board permissions.
In fact other than considering adding a 'hard-coded' limit and potentially additional sites, I don't have any plans to add further functionality to this mod.
If it gets converted to a link, it will be converted.
Use [nobbc] or tags to prevent it being converted to a link and therefore prevent it being converted.

Indeed for v1.0 and v1.1 there were some issues with different browsers, but that was mainly due to different code from different sites.  In 1.2 they all now use the same object embed code.
There should be no problems with ANY of the supported sites in version 1.2.  in IE6/7 or Firefox 1/2 or Opera (except Gamevideos in FF). As every site has been tested for v1.2.

AllMassive

ok - but i dont get it right - could you please explain.

I have these links:
[b]Bass:[/b]
- Victor Wooten: [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9a4ThBNacY]>> click[/url]
- Stanley Clarke: [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmI_BsVfuCg]>> click[/url]
- Marcus Miller: [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhbi8GSsqrU]>> click[/url]

Where do i need to put the [nobbc] ?

karlbenson

It is not possible to have working links that do not convert.
The whole mod works on 'replacing' converted links.

The ONLY solution is to have links which are not CLICKABLE.  It is not possible to have links which don't convert.
eg like

[b]Bass:[/b][nobbc]
- Victor Wooten: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9a4ThBNacY
- Stanley Clarke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmI_BsVfuCg
- Marcus Miller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhbi8GSsqrU
[/nobbc]

would appear as
Bass:
- Victor Wooten: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9a4ThBNacY
- Stanley Clarke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmI_BsVfuCg
- Marcus Miller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhbi8GSsqrU

The only alternative solution is to put the links through an anonymiser so it won't match.

.

Actually, it would work and would really be the best way to approach it!

What I am saying is; The mod would check to see if ..THE ADDITION OF MORE EMBED TAGS WOULD RESULT IN AN "OVERLOAD SITUATION FOR THE BROWSER, AND IF SO, REFUSE TO ADD MORE EMBEDDED TAGS"

In effect, leave the post exactly as it is w/o returning an updated buffer!

It is possible to make this embedded 'limit' browser dependent, for instance, the Nintendo WII will crap out on 2 or 3 embedded objects and only supports flash 6, for example, the PSP portable also has similar limitations
