Dimensions should be optional in the admin center. Most videos are made in 4/3 or similar format and really looks stupid in widescreen format.

That's the plan. I'll try to find whether Youtube offers a variable that sets widescreen format. Maybe it will in a few days, when enough people complain that 4/3 vids shouldn't have black bars

You can check out http://aeva.noisen.com for a placeholder forum. If it appears in French even though your Windows is in English, please report it. (I'm trying to set it by default to your OS language. But this is a website targetted to French users so it's not easy to check everything.)

Unfortunately, it won't show up in my browser -- I only have access to the French version of their blog, even if I enable English everywhere and I hide my country... Annoying!

Nothing else than they expanded the Youtube page to 960px to make more room for the widescreen videos.

I managed to do a few tests before going to work. I made a button to make a video change btw. 16:10 and 4:3 dimensions. The video was in 16:10. All that really happened was that the top and bottom black bars of the video was hided. The video wasn't played back in another stretched format. Also, as I can see it, the dimensions in the embedded code Youtube provide isn't changed at all.

It is ok now! It is in English now. Opens fine in both FF and IE

Stupid question of the day...
Who should I be talking to, in order to transmit to me the ownership of the http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=977 page?
I'm not asking for ownership of this topic (it will obviously have to be replaced with a new one... Unless someone changes the id_member for the first post to my account...), but I'm sure people will be more likely to understand Aevac has been taken over if the URL stays the same for the mod itself...
(I need to be either added as Additional author, or put as main author, and add Karl as additional author of course.)

Just tell me what I should translate to English and I'll try to do it ASAP. This is really a beta website that is catered to a French audience. I offered to open the discussion/support board there because (1) guests can post, which doesn't force you to open an account just for asking a question, (2) I have control over the website, and I'll be testing Aeva there, so it's only logical that people could make their tests over there.
If you'd rather use smf-media.com (which hosts the SVN server and will also host the beta versions, thanks to Dragooon who kindly offered free use of his system), I just need a few more people to ask for it. You'll have to register over there, though, if you want to post, so it's less flexible.

I just tested... It would seem that Youtube embedded videos change their dimensions according to the embed size. i.e., if you put a 16/9 video into a 4/3 window, it will show with black bars... same thing the other way around.
I'm not sure what I could do, apart from adding an option in the admin area to let the administrator choose whether to show 4/3 or 16/9 videos all the time...
Adding &fmt=22 to the URL used to force the video to 16/9 so I could have used that, but nowadays it always defaults to 16/9, even when trying to force 4/3, at least on Youtube I mean...

You could do like i did here this morning: teamhd.org - youtube video. There's a button below the video.

Note that I changed the height for testing as the space I have available in width there is limited. Of course you should expand the width when showing 16/9 or 16/10 video.

Hi. Thanks again for this great mod. I'm still using version 2.2 (don't fix what's working), but I'm going to upgrade now because of the YouTube 16/9 aspect rate..
I mean, I'll upgrade as soon as the mod supports it natively.

You suppose correctly

As you can see here http://www.divshare.com/tour#content_share it allows video, mp3, doc, jpg and all sort of stuff to be shared. 5 GB for free isn't' too shabby either!
