Aeva 6.9.99 and earlier (old)

I would appreciate that everyone who ever experienced issues with the "Disallow quote embedding" feature update their install ASAP with this new version. It seems to fix most of the issue, or at least make it harder for PHP to become uncooperative.

And all of this just by changing a single character, as it should be in all programmers' nightmares. (Basically: the longer you spend on fixing the bug, the least impressive the end result will look like.)

Now you know why should should make regular backups lol

Dont worry buddy, SMF has a small fail safe

Go into your packages directory, in there you will see a backup folder.
Download the package that says something along the lines of  before Aeva mod v5.0.18.

Now upload that to the root of your forum, and it will reset your templates back to before this mod was installed.

The root of your forum is where your packages, smileys, sources, themes etc  folders are held.
Incase you werent too sure

Found it, but it only says avea 5 not the .18 but thats ok (I checked the date..... its 12 december wich is the right one)

Now I upload it to my main and then what extract and let it overwrite?


BY the way there are 2 4 each there is a backup and also a before im suposed to use before right (Just being catious)

Yep.
You want it to overwrite the changes the mod made.
And yep, the "before" one is the correct file
Start using the edit button if youre posting directly after your previous posts please bud.
It saves clutter etc and keeps the threads from drilling too many pages etc.
Makes searching for answers a lil easier

I have a suggestion, this might be a difficult one but try adding the feature of allowing people to embed from links that are not video sites but have embeded a video from a video site... For example if i embed a youtube video onto my site and someone likes it instead of follwing the video to youtube they just copy paste the link to the page on my site that has it and voala!

I am no programer but i do believe it is do-able considering all you have to do is configure it to search for a pattern that matches the pattern of the embed code for sites you've already enabled and and copy that....

Remember to make regular backups of your forum, as there is the possibility of losing your site.
Anything is possible.
Regarding Karma, I have no idea mate.
Some sites dont use it as the system can be abused, and some people take things too seriously.

But:
1/ that would imply every time you post a link, your server would have to do a lookup on the distant website to search for videos,
2/ that would mean if the distant website posts a video after you posted the link, you won't get the direct link, only the video, which may not have been there at the time you posted the link,
3/ maybe you just want to post a link, not a video...
4/ what if there are several videos on the distant website?

That's too much "unknown" and not enough "realism" for me

Apart from that--still haven't heard about the .core bug. Anyone here ever experienced that? With AEVAC 3.x maybe? I found a couple of remarks going that way on the other topic...

How about trying a tag for linking to videos like the way i suggested.... example

[testtag vid=1]http://yoursite.com/video[/testtag]

were vid is a parameter that defines wich set of acceptable video code... first acceptable pattern found (1) or for the second acceptable one vid=2 and third vid=3 ....
That way you if there were 3 vids if i put in vid=1 i would get the first one and if i put in vid=2 i would get the second one etc

Ok, here's what happened. I accidentally upgraded Aeva without uninstalling the previous version first. Then I realized that and uninstalled the previous version and now my site says that.

It's too complicated. If you're willing to go such lengths NOT to have the link to the remote site appear, you *can* take a few seconds and follow the Youtube/etc link and post that instead...

That's exactly what Aeva was made for, isn't it....? Embedding links to Youtube?
