Thanks very much. The embedding disabled notice feature is working again with the newest NON-BETA version. Perhaps simply deactivating and reactivating it reset it? Anyway, it works.

Good to know.... I didn't modify anything about the notice in either rev16 or rev18 so yeah it's probably not due to your updates ^^

I tried to noembed a hundred links like yours and had no issue on my website.

I was using your 5.0.1.6 when that error occurs. I updated to 5.0.1.8 with my current php  5.2.5 and did that multiple links with single noembed  command and it works perfectly. thank you so much sir!!! much respect!

I committed a new release (#19) with an extra fix for the infamous regular expression.
This one finally managed to fix the crashes at noisen.com. I strongly suspect that it will fix everyone's crashes and .core dump files when putting large quantities of text into quotes or code blocks.

Anyway--I'm still looking for people who had the issue and who would be willing to test. The new code works perfectly on my website with complex multiple-level nested quotes. I would be interested in anyone's feedback. It would be nice to test on unmatched quotes/code blocks (not closing a tag, or adding an extra closing tag), to see if the code still works on these.

PS: to download the new svn release, go to aeva.noisen.com, development section, and check out the sticky topic. I'll release a new official version tomorrow at best.

Anyway--Just wanted to ask a quick question.
I noticed that Aevac v4.x still is much more downloaded than Aeva v5.0, even though Aeva is not in beta, Aeva fixes several bugs from Aevac, etc, etc. There is really no reason for this.

- Is this because of the name change? In which case I suppose I should simply remove both v3 and v4 of the mod to help users understand they should download v5 instead?
- Is this because of a direct link to the v4 file from somewhere else?
- Are there users here who won't download v5? Can you tell me why?

Well, 2 cts of bold kitchen psychology : it might be related to the name, just because it's AEVAC minus a letter and so might feel like a reduced, lite version.

I see no rational reason to still download AEVAC 4. However, I'm amongst the non-AEVA users, as AEVAC 3 still seems to work better - at least for the limited features I care of. I occasionally drop an eye on noisen to check if those problematic youtube videos work, but till then, the only reasons I'd have to switch to AEVA would be some added functionalities "for our forum", that is, very personally, some very specific details (one bad obscure video site just because it's been used once, one suggested intuitive auto-non-embed feature that I'd find useful in order to not have to faq the local users on [noimbed]). Details that are not important in the grand scheme of AEVA and won't necessarily be implemented at all, ever, at all, ever.

So, mathematically, no new "locally useful" features, minus the most important full youtube compatibility, makes the current version of AEVA a less rational choice than AEVAC 3. This is the 'why' for 1 user who hasn't downloaded v5, but, more importantly, it stresses that retaining AEVAC 3's availability might be important.

But maybe if you remove AEVAC 4, the 3-to-5 jump might compensate the C loss, in terms of "looking more complete". Which brings this post's total amount of bold kitchen psychology to 3 cts. Woot.

Besides I made some modifications to AEVAC 3 that makes it suits my forum better. Amongst them HQ playback from Youtube.

And I have a (english) forum running with hundrets of Youtube links. I don't intend to screw them up by trying a.. well released but still a release with bugs.

If I should use AEVA 5 in a danish forum, it would have to support videos from the biggest danish sites.. which I know you wouldn't use time on.

So AEVA 5 is really not in any interest to me.

How about trying a tag for linking to videos like the way i suggested.... example

It's too complicated. If you're willing to go such lengths NOT to have the link to the remote site appear, you *can* take a few seconds and follow the Youtube/etc link and post that instead...

Another suggestion that i think will work is allowing people to use non-localy stored files so for example i could use a file stored on youtube or megaupload if i had the link to the video file

Well the last one i meant instead of the link to the site page i wasgoing for a .flv .mpg .wmv link (The direct file but off server) Ive seent that done with on server things and ive done it manually for off server but that time consuming so that would be a great help... you would also need a player and those can be downloaded 4 free. Like the one used in Media gallery

And i thought the code for Aeve was already complex as hell so i thought it made no diff

So flash video and other local video won't embed in this latest version - right?  Hope it will soon.  But, now I can't seem to embed .mp3 local files anymore.  This worked in version 4 for me.  I'd get that little mini audio player under the file name.  Seems to be gone now.

No, local doesn't work in the latest version.  In fact here's a quote from the notes on version 5.0.18

"- Embed local files (excludes Attachments) (Divx/Flash/Real/WindowsMedia/Avi) (This doesn't work as of v5.0. Shall be fixed later.)"

- i'll answer everything tomorrow
- about local embedding: i simply never tested the feature. i read about everyone complaining that it doesn't work -- i have done nothing on it yet, but i'll get on it this week. I'm glad i can finally put the quotes/code bug to rest and work on more visible stuff
- about "niche" websites: there are lots of reasons for integrating non-super-popular websites. If a website is popular in a certain country (e.g. it's in Danish only and still has a decent Alexa rating, < 10.000 should be perfect), then of course I'll do my best to add it. Just look at trilulilu.ro: I don't speak Romanian, but I'm thinking about adding lookup support to get audio files to play
- version numbers: 19? eh? what do you mean? revision 19? it's a test release on the svn server... i update the version number every time i do a new release on the smf mod page...
- sorry if i forgot anything else, as i said -- i'll answer tomorrow.
