hmmm... u need to put the [aeva] tag for it to work??

i have 5.1.25 installed... haha
"haha" back to you  ;D

"Local embedding" means what it means--local embedding.
Your website is at
http://eschorale.110mb.com/index.php/topic,58.0.html
Your file should be at
http://eschorale.110mb.com/Angel.FLV
(Or any sub-folders, as long as "eschorale.110mb.com/" is in the URL)

That's what local embedding is. It's more secure because the webmaster has control over what files are posted.
Security is the #1 reason for using Aeva. You don't want to break that, do you? ;)

Maybe in a later version I'll add an option to add "trusted" websites for you to post items from. I don't know. It could be discussed over at noisen.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Aeva Media rocks your life.

Yea, I tried three different youtube embed codes and no luck.

Could it have something to do with the "Fix Message Empty Error For Embed Video Mods" mod of Karl's? Is that mod still necessary to avoid that error?
I don't have any mod installed (at least related to Aeva), so yes, I suppose you could try and uninstall this one... I've never heard about it before. Must be an old thing?

Awesome! I didn't realise you could potentially have it automatically detect wide screen appropriate videos. :D
I didn't either, until earlier today and a careful observation of the Youtube page's source file ;)

LainaaHowever, I still think it would be good to have an admin override so that all YouTubes are in wide screen. After all, YouTube.com use wide screen format for everything so there will come a point where normal square embeds feel wrong to the user.
I beg to differ... I like seeing videos in their original intended box. And I think most users will agree.
Please note though, that since this shall be obtained by a lookup, users *will* have to re-edit their existing messages if they want the widescreen flag to be retrieved (and set).

Shall we move this discussion to the Aeva development board? Maybe with a poll or something...

You could always remove the check from within Aeva, but then you're opening yourself to severe abuse. Anyone could have a go at hacking your website while you're sleeping... Have fun :)

I installed it back a ways. Karl used to link to it from this mod page as it complemented it. I uninstalled it. Nothing changed so while that mod is apparently unnecessary for this one anymore (to avoid the warning message on empty posts), it didn't fix the embed code feature.  :'(

Nao 尚

You'll need to give me a test account to your board as well as the exact code you're trying to post. (PM if you like) I don't see any other way... I tested more embeds and had no problems.

@akyhne> Re: links, they only appear if the website's flash player doesn't allow you to visit the original page. Also, links are hidden if a lookup forces the generation of a link that doesn't lead to any web page (such as BBC News and BBC IPlayer).
Ok, got that wrong

@akyhne> Re: languages, I'm not including language files in the Aeva package until further notice. My goal is to have a ready-to-use experience when you're installing the new version. For that reason, I can only include language files that I update myself (i.e. English and French). That's the reason why I have a whole board dedicated to translations at Noisen... ;)
I don't get that. You have several languages translated on aeva.noisen.com. Why can't you include those?

By the way: What options do you have to embed in widescreen?? You can't change aspect ratio on a youtube video, or...? You can... as far as I know... only change the aspect ratio of the embed vindow.

jayman2

I just installed firefox to test my smf installation.  I installed the flash plug-in and that works just fine.  But I can't play an avi file that I have on my server using .  I click on the play button and it says Locating Media and then Ready.  Media play show up with the black screen but it doesn't play.  It plays just fine in IE.

Also when I play an avi in IE, it starts automatically when the page opens.  Is there a way to stop this and wait for it to be started by the user?

Nao 尚

"video" tag? That's not in Aeva...
Other than that--if you have an Aeva support request, please use the Aeva board. Thanks.

No problem

LainaaI don't get that. You have several languages translated on aeva.noisen.com. Why can't you include those?
Because I don't want to include language files that are outdated, even by a few strings.
And if a language does catch up, I still don't want to include a language in the mod, only to remove it later because it's not up to date.

LainaaBy the way: What options do you have to embed in widescreen?? You can't change aspect ratio on a youtube video, or...? You can... as far as I know... only change the aspect ratio of the embed vindow.
Err... Yes. What is a question actually?

Ok, I understand with the language packs now. You are not done with adding strings.

About Youtube videos and aspect ratio:

We are talking about 3 things here...

1) a video that can have differrent aspect ratios, from author have those black top and buttom border. It can be a 16/9, 16/10 or whatever in a 4/3 format. Or vica versa. It can be a true 16/9, a true 4/3 or whatever.

2) A Youtube player that is on Youtubes server and that we have no control over (except quality options via &fmtxx etc.)

3) An embedding browser where we can change dimensions on the the embedded size (not the video).

So my question is really related to #2: Have you found some options to control the Youtube player that can change aspect ratio? In the way that you can force a true 4/3 to stretch to 16/9? I doubt it. Even Youtube has difficulcy detecting the right aspect ratio on peoples uploaded videos.

So all we can do as far as I know is changing quality of the streaming and dimension AND aspect ratio of the embedded object.

About changing aspect ratio, you can look at my video at the frontpage of teamhd.org again. There's a button below the video saying 16/9 or 4/3. It just changes the aspect ratio of the embedded object but not on the video, nothing more. Can you do other things?

Omniverse

I was playing with this on a test site.

We have a sub domain for media files I would love to be able to use this to embed. It doesn't seem to work for 'local' embedding if its a sub domain. Should it? Its still part of our normal domain.

Akyhne

I don't know yet it NAO worked on that part, but have a similar issue, except my forum is on a subdomain and the files are in that same subdomain. I just see a circle of dead.

Nao 尚

Omniverse, akyhne: can you post links to these problematic links, as always? (I already requested this in the last page... I suppose people only read the posts that are about them?)

akyhne> can't you please discuss this on the widescreen topic over at noisen.com?

Well, first of all... Please upgrade SMF Media Gallery to 1.5.1, it's like night and day. Version 1.0.2 is full of security holes and has much fewer features. It won't conflict with SMF Gallery Pro.

Apart from that -- as always: please post the URL to your board and a test account for me to see. Please post it over at aeva.noisen.com if you want me to remember doing this next week otherwise I may miss it.

Ahh, ok, well I wasn't sure if sub-domain was considered as being local.

My test is something like testsite.mydomain, the media domain is media.mydomain., then actual site is just mydomain.

Does is not work simply because the test site is a sub domain as well?

Just though I would ask before going farther. If it should work like that, I'll PM you info to the test site, don't want my test site publicly linked.

And sorry, only reference I saw in the thread to this issue was...

Thanks.
Using the word "throw away" isn't exactly very nice to me... I've worked really hard, full time, on SMF Media Gallery for over 2 months... That's why I told you it would be best to update, because I know v1.5.1 (I didn't work on v1.0.x) interfaces finely with Aeva (it actually uses Aeva for some of its work).

Oh, well... I guess you're not going to take my word for it anyway :(

@Omniverse> I can post videos from pics.noisen.com to aeva.noisen.com for instance, if you're wondering. I may have to check, though. It was hard for me to decide whether it was best to forbid different subdomains (except for the obvious www.stuff.com versus stuff.com all alone), because it might represent two different websites on two different servers, but usually that wouldn't be the case...... I'll have to look into it... Tomorrow... If I don't forget.
