Yes. I don't like nesting too many tags through bbcode.
[ae align=center] / [aeva align=center] seems cleaner to me. It allows me to style embedded videos so that they can behave with each other. (Although it's not perfect even in SMG... If you use the thumbnail box type, smg tags won't correctly align. It's a known issue. Shouldn't be a problem here.)

Because you're taking a mod that was formerly very non-invasive and straightforward and adding complexity. For whatever reasons, whether for the better or worse, it is going to cause people to input their opinions. Karl had debates about whether videos should be embedded in quotes, and whether to add this site or that. Since you've expanded beyond that, you're going to see more debates, more users up in arms because such-and-such a feature doesn't agree with them.

If you're going to add features, Nao, my suggestion would be to either add them as you are and ask for no input (suffer the users' wrath later) or ask for input and deal with the multitude of suggestions. Ultimately, it's up to you what you do, and it's up to you how you create/add/change features. But just be aware that whatever you do, it's the users who make the mod what it is.

I think you're taking these debates too personally. Who cares how long the tag name is, if users want to use the tag, they'll type out [youtube] if necessary. That's not too awfully long, and yet its longer than [media]. And if users aren't happy you included adult sites, then what? You can certainly ignore debates for a while, but just keep in mind that your users make the mod popular and keep it popular. And while I'm not going to take a stand on one debate or another any longer, just keep in mind, you might stand to listen from time to time. Take a step back, dispense with your pride, and listen to your users. How else can a product grow? How could SMF have come this far without listening to its users? Just keep it in mind.

I think [audio] and [video] would be closest to understandable BBC as "ae", "aeva" or even "embed" means nothing to non english speaking people. We are all familiar with "audio" and "video" from our stereos, tv's and other in/output.
Sorry NAO, but I think you should make it usuable for the majority of people and not only the "hard core" users.

This debate about what the tag should be is gettin ridiculous. I see all sides, and they ALL make sense, but really peeps, its just a tag!!  No matter what you name it, once people learn how to do it(as in anything), what would it matter?

Regarding the tag, there's actually nothing that stops me from storing the tag's name in the database, so I'll probably get around to let users rename it if they'd like (and if I can pull it off, which shouldn't be a problem AFAIK, at least if I use my [smg] method). But it'll be [aeva] or [ae] by default. That way, everyone's happy. (And I'll actually get to rename it to [nao] for fun on noisen.com... Nah, just kidding )

Interestingly, the "adult integration" debate was killed as soon as I released the version that featured it. I guess it will be the same with the current one. Oh, and this debate is about what name the tag should have. Which is a bit silly, in my opinion. The debate should have been about whether or not to use a tag at all. I guess it means "yeah, at any rate, use the tag if you'd like, we don't mind".

I'm aware that there are thousands of Aeva users, most of them very happy with the product, and that I shouldn't let a few vocal users influence my choices. However, I find it that once you reach a sample of about 10 users, you get a good idea of the silent majority's opinion. It's not a precise idea, but it's better than nothing.

And finally--regarding my pride and everything. I think everyone deserves a clear (or maybe not so clear?) statement about design choices.

When I took over Aeva, I did it unwillingly. I wasn't interested in maintaining the project itself, I did it for a number of reasons, but it never, never, never was, and will never be, for matters of pride. I actually didn't realize the mod was so popular until I started working on it. I never cared to look at the Mod Stats page. Also, I know that most of my choices are good. When they aren't, there are usually people who care enough to explain their reasons for believing I'm wrong. I try to be fair and decide whether their argument is valid or not. Sometimes both arguments are valid, so it's harder to make a decision -- reason why I'll try to make sure the Aeva tag can be renamed manually, for instance. But all in all, I'm afraid a software's success has never been my goal. I mainly work for myself. I constantly throw myself challenges, and try to outdo myself. It's my drug, you see. It's the reason why I work so much. All I can say is that even if usually, people agree with my choices in the end, the fact that something is widely rejected will never make me back down from a design choice. If I'm the only one happy with it and there's no way to conciliate my "vision" and what users are expecting, then I'll still choose to stay with my own beliefs, and users will probably have to deal with it or go see elsewhere (or use an older version, etc). I try not to look at download numbers. In the end, what matters to me is that I'm happy with my everyday work. Because the day I stop caring, I stop working. And you know what it means -- Aeva will have to find another maintainer.

All I know is that the mod's author didn't try hard... He pretty much went the old-school way, forcing users to retrieve an embed ID... Brrr! Just have a look at his megaporn implementation. He should have looked a bit harder, there wasn't even a need for lookups (which are exclusive to Aeva, AFAIK) -- the extra letters in the ID are only for retrieving the thumbnail. All I had to do was add 32 zeros into the URL and it worked (with the added bonus of not having a thumbnail in the video, which could be a problem if someone went posting adult videos on a general-purpose website...)

Anyway -- the other two sites mentioned there, never heard about them. I only know about redtube and megaporn because they're in the Top 50 at alexa, so I figured they must be the most "popular" of their kind. I'll be adding these sites as they're requested, but you'll have to do it the official way.

What you want to do is edit your links to move the [/url] tag to the end of the actual URL. SMF doesn't support asterisks in URLs so the autolink feature will mess it up. Once you fix the URL manually, it works as expected.

How can I alter the size of the youtube embeds?  Youtube now embeds in Widescreen and HD, but this mod still embeds the video at the old size.

95% of all YouTube videos are still in 4/3 format so the current embed format is still best for YT... (Wait until I add a feature where Aeva will determine automatically the best format.)

Thanks for everyting. I know  I change my hosting service, (because my previous hosting server harddisk is fire). And i have not file backup, i have db backup and some files..  and i move to backup files to my new hosting service.  so smg  (1.5.2) is work fine (all features, thumbnail etc..).
