Aeva is not buggy!
Aevac 4 was buggy, and it was in beta. Aeva 5 never was buggy. I worked very hard on fixing all Aevac bugs very quickly. Any version 5.1.xx is free of any bugs.

Oh crap, you're telling me I've done nothing, and then you only tried one version, and it's v5.1.32? You're kidding me? I implemented Joost.com for you in v5.1.25! I was going to get started on your Danish sites! Is that how you thank me for my work? By not even trying out the version in which I spent time for you?

I'm not paid for the job. And I've still been choosing to spend time on it, and do as much work on it as possible because it could use so many improvements and I'm not happy with the current version. It's not in beta, it just can be improved upon more.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

I can't read your mind NAO. You asked for popular sites... I provided a few for you. I don't need them at all, even the Danish ones. But if the AEVA should be popular in the way you want with a lot of sites, you have to add those.
You asked for comments on name of the mod and other stuff and you are having a laugh on peoples suggestions. That's rude! You are also having a laugh of Karls great work (whom I have no relation to). That's rude too!! you even got the mans help on some Q's.
And I asked you a lot of questions the last few months, you didn't answer half of them. So if i can't get my Q's and comments answered, I can't use the mod as it is. I don't tend to install the mod on my primary forum if things (links) get screwed.

Nobody said you didn't do a great job. Version 4.0.2 was buggy and unusable for a lot of people. Why are you taking things so personal? I didn't complain at any point. I even translated the mod for you in a split second. You didn't use it yet and I respect your explenation on why. But basically you have been rude to just about every person who tried help you, and you are wondering why people are not responding to the mod anymore!!?!

Well my concept of a tag is to be as silent as possible. ie, you don't even have to know it exists. It is only there for you to fine-tune your videos.
My main problem with a tag is that when people see a post with a video embed and are curious how that user was able to do it, they will quote the post and see the aeva tag and assume they must use tags to post up videos. Currently when a user quotes a video embed post, all they see is the URL which is good as the newbie then understands that all they need is to post a URL.

I would need a few testers please...

rev 39 adds this:

* Split Aeva admin page into two separate pages (Settings and Site List), to allow more breathing space in both section (Subs-Aeva-Admin.php, language files, install files)

If you're interested in testing this new feature (the site list is definitely slow to load, right?), you will find the download link here:
http://aeva.noisen.com/dev/5044/where-can-i-get-the-latest-goodies/

Thanks.

PS: this is tested to work well on my site (SMF 2.0 RC1). I would need to know whether install works fine on SMF 2.0 b4 and SMF 1.1.7.

The rev 39 works fine in 1.1.7 but not in 2.0  beta 4. I don't get the "Aeva" link, only the "Aeva Sites" link in 2.0, but I can call it manually in the link. Still there's an issue as I don't see texts in the "Aeva" page in SMF 2.0 b4

Akyhne

That's strange. The troublesome forum is a SMF 2.0 beta 3 testforum that has been upgraded to beta 4 a while ago.
I tried to install rev. 39 in another SMF 2.0 beta 4 test forum I have, and have no issues there.

Nao 尚

Maybe a language issue? I added three strings. I don't think it would have any influence but still, worth checking out. If adding the strings makes it work, then I forgot to do something somewhere.

The forums are all running English-UTF8, so that could not be the issue.

This is really freaky!! I discovered that the two forums are NOT both running UTF-8. The forum that works ok is running english and the one with the error is running UTF-8. So I checked the Aeva.english-utf8.php file via Dreamweaver and it's completely empty. But in the Aeva_rev-39.tgz file, the text is there.
So I guess there's an error somehow in the .tgz file.

Akyhne

I unzipped the package and opened Aeva.english-utf8.php with Notepad++, the saved it as UTF-8 (without bom). Then zipped the files with Winzip and uploaded it. Now there's no error.

Nao 尚

Oh yes, I forgot about that... Dragooon's SVN server is buggy.

Do it this way:

- Redownload the package from the svn site
- Unzip somewhere
- Rezip manually
- Reupload to your site

Should work now :)

I'm currently working on a "latest version" feature which should allow me to separate site list downloads from Aeva updates. (i.e., you'll no longer need to update Aeva if you just want to update your site list. This is for the future, when Aeva will have all of the features I'm looking into adding, and all I'll do is udpate the site list.)

Edit: ah, I see you thought of it before, eheh. Although... Was the BOM part really necessary?

Ok, it is an zip error. I also tried to extract the original files without making any changes to any file and zipped the whole thing with Winzip. Then uploaded the .zip package and installed it. No errors now.

Akyhne

UTF-8 files should always be made as UTF-8 (without BOM). But at least the Aeva.english-utf8.php is just saved as ANSI.

Akyhne

Here's the original buggy .tgz file I downloaded from your server if you need it for any purpose:

BUGGY FILE - DON'T USE THIS ATTACHMENT!!!

Nao,

Glad to see you settled down about things. I saw you were very upset last night. Hey, the vast majority of aeva users aren't going to take time to get you your props- that is just life. So, if that is really important, and I understand why it could be, then maybe you should devote less time to this mod so you don't feel you are being taken advantage of or wasting your time. On the other hand, I think you have made tremendous improvements to it, look forward to the rest of your plans, and am 100% confident the downloads for this mod will grow back to #1 in due course.

Nao 尚

@akyhne> I don't need it... as I told you earlier, I had forgotten that Dragooon's svn server had that bug. So we'd already met it previously ;)

@weightman> yes I was upset last night... (Personal issues.) Today I figured I'd just dive into work and not think of annoying things.

No, I don't think the mod will go back to #1... And really, I couldn't care less. What's the point with fighting against mods that are totally unrelated? I just want to make sure SMF users are aware of the best possible solutions for what they're looking for.
SMF Gallery (SGL) is a successful mod -- SMF Media Gallery (SMG) barely gets 1/10th of its download rates. Both are free. SMG is clearly the better one (basically, it is on par with SMF Gallery Pro, valued $50, in terms of features), but it's still relatively ignored on the mod site. Why? I don't know, but I suppose it may change in the future. Aeva used to be #1 because people would download it from external sources and now have a 404 error or something. That's a #1 position I don't really care about. I'd rather have accurate statistics, you know? But then again -- now, Aeva has half the download rate of the YouTube BBCode mod. It's a bit annoying to imagine that users are going to install this mod on their board when they could be using Aeva in the first place. They'll get the [youtube] tags everywhere, it won't work well, they'll complain about the lack of features, and when they find out about Aeva, they'll have to run an uninstall script, and I'll have to explain everyone how to do that.

I think at this point, I'd appreciate if Karl could ask the mod site team to remove the YouTube mod from the list, as it's outdated now that there's a need to swich between widescreen and fullscreen modes. (And, yes, I'll be working on that this week.)

BTW, and I'm going to put it in bold so everyone is aware of the current situation, I've pretty much decided not to implement the [aeva] tag at all. Maybe in a distant future, I don't know, but right now, most of the features I'd like to implement through this tag can already be done through the current system (only, slower). At least I'll get to avoid all of the backlash related to adding a tag instead of making the mod even simpler. Also, it should allow me to implement widescreen support much faster. Widescreen videos will be identified by the #ws anchor next to the video URL. That way, you'll also be able to "force" widescreen or fullscreen mode even if your server doesn't support lookups.

Sounds good Nao. Regarding SMF gellery, I have Pro installed. Since upgrades are free, it works well, and doesn't even get tremendous use on my site, I saw no need to change. But, I have examined your alternative and it looks very good. If I was starting over adding a gallery, I would use it.

Have a good day.  :)

Eliana Tamerin

Good choice on the tag, Nao. I'm looking forward to the ability to switch from widescreen to fullscreen.

Just a question, do you plan to be able to switch to HD? There are a small number of HD movies on youtube currently, but the number is growing. The picture quality is so much better (like it rivals the late Stage 6 site), it would be nice to be able to embed HD movies sometimes.
