Nao, flv is a container not a codec. But, I see what you mean with the HD format being encoded in h264 as a mp4 rather than on2vp6 as a flv. It is more efficient though far from a home studio would consider HD of course. I am on the lower speed cable broadband roughly the equivalent of DSL speed I believe and I get smooth playback. So, I think you could default to HD. Perhaps the thing to do is provide a "watch in normal quality" link under the either default HD/HQ embed?

I don't know what to suggest with the width though. I am on a fixed width for now though I will probably go to a fluid width when I upgrade to SMF2.

Yeah, flash video I know, but I don't remember the name of the codec... Sorenson? Sorensen, maybe? Anyway, saying "Sorensen" won't help much users... Who knows about this one?

I get relatively smooth playback over a 5mbps DSL line. From time to time the video freezes for a second and then restarts (the audio is fine). Not sure why but I don't mind, as long as audio/video are sync'ed.

Nah, because it would force me to add Javascript. Aeva doesn't use any Javascript and I'm not sure it would be a welcome addition. Doing JS on SMG is okay because it's a full-featured software and people expect usability. When it comes to Aeva, people expect it to be non-intrusive (i.e. make sure no one ever knows the magic behind the implementation).

I probably should simply implement the max-width variable... But then again, my max width varies depending on what div the video is in... :-/

One more thing I want to ask is this  Aeva Debug Mode (Admin Only) settings.

What does it do when enabled..?

It just tells you, in each post, how much time was spent inside Aeva code (preparing the embedding stuff).
It's of no use to everyday users. Even I don't use it. And I'm the developer

Revision 50 is available for download. This may, or may not become, v5.2.50, if all goes well. In any case, I will release a new version tomorrow. I think there are well enough changes to justify switching to the 5.2 branch (actually, v5.1.47 should have been called 5.2, and this one might justify a 6.0, lol...). If you wrote custom site implementations, you WILL have to rewrite them. Oh, and you absolutely need to regenerate the site list after installing the files. See below.

How to install? (the ONLY way to make sure it installs correctly)
- Make sure v5.1.47 is installed (5.1.42 should be okay too.)
- Download from the link above
- Unzip to your PC
- Take the four Subs-*.php files and upload them to your Sources folder. You do not need to upload anything else. Delete the Subs-Aeva-Generated-Sites.php file (not required but would be better).
- Go to Admin area > Aeva Sites > Click on Save (you may want to check the new sites added to the list)
- Please *test* and report your feelings about this version. Is it stable enough for you? Does it succeed in doing what you want? Etc.

Nao: This is a big ask but I'm curious as to whether it is plausible. Would you consider implementing alternative content for those that do not have Flash enabled? Like have a message where the video is telling people to download Flash.

I fully expect you to completely reject this request but thought it's worth a mention.

Mark, we're already discussing this on noisen... Aren't we? Yes I'll do something at some point, but it'll probably be more in the lines of "add optional support for SWFObject".

I think that if you're going to use the bandwidth of a video site, you can at least give it some Pagerank in exchange. It doesn't cost you anything...
