+ Added support for audio in Trilulilu.ro

OMG !!! You have no idea how happy I am right now ! Thank you so much ! :D

later edit:
I uninstalled the previous aeva version, installed the current one and nothing works out anymore .. no video, no audio ...only links the way they were posted  :(

later edit:
Fixed : uninstalled again, noticed that the aeva files from the Sources directory were not removed, manually removed them and installed the mod again .. now it works.

How would having the media links pointing back to the SOURCE of the media adversely affect YOUR ranking?
It wouldn't, that's not the issue and neither is PR. My concern is with the number of external links on my page, I don't want an excessive number of external links on my home page as it's possible such a thing could trigger something with Google. I admit it probably won't but that doesn't change the fact it's understandable that I want to play it safe.. it doesn't harm my website and it doesn't harm anyone else.

Lainaus käyttäjältä: Kindred - tammikuu 25, 2009, 08:37:31 APHonestly, if I were the search engines, I would "ding" people who do exactly what you just did....

Lainaus käyttäjältä: Kindred - tammikuu 25, 2009, 08:37:31 APIt is only polite (and sometimes, it is required) to give the original source an attribution and link-back since you are using their content.
I'm giving a link back and websites like the BBC will not care in the slightest whether those links have rel=nofollow.

I'm sorry in advance, but I need to put this in a large font so that everyone can see it:

Aeva 5.2.50 changes a lot of things in the site list. If you have Aeva 5.1.47 installed, it will stop working (previous versions are fine). Once you install it, go to the Aeva admin area and just click on "Save". Aeva will not work until you do this.

After you do it, you should never again have to go to the admin area, even after upgrading. (Previously, Aeva would always remove your generated site list when upgrading. Someone requested that it would not be erased, so I did it, but this is only for v5.1.47, so if you upgraded from an earlier version, you'll be fine.)

No... It couldn't.

Yes, it harms the website which you link to. They have bandwidth to pay for, it's not free. Helping them build up their PR will/might help them get better advertisement rates or something, and everyone's happy. If everyone did it like you do, no video-sharing websites would allow external embedding for their videos.

LainaaI'm an avid reader of Matt Cutt's blog and regularly post on the Google forums, I know what I'm doing is safe.
So, doing something selfish is absolutely 100% safe, but doing something selfless "might not be on Google's side"? That's a strange way of seeing things...
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

I'm only referring to the BBC and I assure you they do not care whether my links to their website are counted in Google. I pay for the BBC website to exist with my TV license. If they had advertising at all then I would expect some of that to be given to me. Really, they don't care about my small website passing on PR... I'm not harming anyone.

I am still using Karls version of this mod (ver 3.1.2). What are the main differences between his version and your latest version? Is there an upgrade option so I dont have to uninstall the one I have and risk messing up/losing all the vid's that have been posted on my site?

It doesn't justify any better the fact that you actually shared your code to remove nofollow stuff. Again: if everyone does what you do, video sharing sites will no longer accept external embedding. (I'm actually considering putting the link below all videos, sometimes using the video's title as the link text.)

You don't risk losing anything. A great care has been put into making Aeva 5.x better than Aevac 3.x in every respect. So you won't lose anything, it's like you're the casino this time ;)

@weightman> Phew! I'm always a bit fearful when it comes to releasing such a large update... And that's certainly the biggest update I've released so far. Very busy week...!
The HD embeds are 854x504, just like on YouTube (normally, their own embed code forces them to 640x385). You can force them to show at widescreen HQ (640x385) size by commenting out the example code in the Custom-Example file. Yes, it respects the max-width adjustement, unfortunately IE doesn't seem to give a damn about limiting max-width for Flash objects, the only way you can limit their size under IE is to set width: 640px (or whatever you like), but it will force *all* embeds to that width, which is even sillier... Adding a "real" max-width limitation will be one of my priorities in the upcoming releases.

Could you give an example of this?

"You can force them to show at widescreen HQ (640x385) size by commenting out the example code in the Custom-Example file."

I'm not exactly sure what to comment out but I would like the HD versions of Youtube videos to be a smaller size.

Thanks in advance,

It doesn't justify any better the fact that you actually shared your code to remove nofollow stuff.
It does if I only intend for people to use it in a situation where it harms no one, like mine. I cannot be blamed if people choose to use it in a way that prevents websites that actually care about incoming link strength from small websites from getting it.

99% of videos posted on my home page are BBC and considering I pay for the BBC to exist I don't think it's immoral for me to 'nofollow' those links with the intent of being safe in regards to a subject that is mostly speculative.

Nao 尚

@Funar> Obviously, this: (I'm changing the code to make it cater to the HD thingy.)

foreach ($sites as $si => $te)
{
if ($te['id'] == 'ytb')
unset($sites[$si]['size']['hd']);
}

@mark> Even if it doesn't harm anyone, it is still bad practice to do this. Why won't you edit your message and remove that?
And I don't care about the BBC website. Their videos won't work anymore for me, so I'm not working on their crap anymore. It's NOT the issue. You could be adding nofollow to porn sites, I don't care. It's a matter of philosophy here. nofollow was only made to help prevent post spamming. Aeva is NOT related to post spamming, since you can disable the target sites.
And you might as well want to edit the url tag to disable nofollow for all external links, eh! Why not! You're only halfway through it... See what I mean?

Nao: I have now removed the code as I don't want you to feel annoyed about it being there if it doesn't cause me much discomfort to have it removed.

I understand that rel=nofollow was created to stop link spamming but like so many things, it evolved into being useful for other purposes. Google often advise that you nofollow legitimate links for link pages if there are lots of them as otherwise it can cause your website to trigger something in Google. So Google themselves officially promote the use of rel=nofollow for purposes beyond that of what it was created for. Google have also officially said that it doesn't mind people nofollowing their own internal links for the sake of 'PR sculpting'.

Examples where nofollow is promoted for use beyond its original purpose.

1) Google happy with nofollow for 'PR sculpting'.
"The nofollow attribute is just a mechanism that gives webmasters the ability to modify PageRank flow at link-level granularity. Plenty of other mechanisms would also work (e.g. a link through a page that is robot.txt'ed out), but nofollow on individual links is simpler for some folks to use. There's no stigma to using nofollow, even on your own internal links..." - Matt Cutts, Head of Google's Webspam team

2) Google advises nofollow for paid links
"In order to prevent paid links from influencing search results and negatively impacting users, we urge webmasters use nofollow on such links." - Google Guidelines

3) Google happy with nofollow for crawl prioritisation
"Search engine robots can't sign in or register as a member on your forum, so there's no reason to invite Googlebot to follow "register here" or "sign in" links. Using nofollow on these links enables Googlebot to crawl other pages you'd prefer to see in Google's index." - Google Guidelines

4) Google advises nofollow for links pages that breach the '100 links per page' guideline
Sorry, can't find a link for this but I don't think it's that important considering the other links provided.

With respect to reducing the size of the HD video in Youtube....

I tried to do this last night but didn't see any changes and I'm not really sure if I did it right.  I removed the // just before each line in the example file and re-uploaded it.

Am I supposed to move the code or comment out any other lines?

Did you remember to regenerate the site list in the admin area?

Thanks again Nao.

@Everyone> A tentative release of Aeva 5.2.52 is available over at my website (link in my sig).

It adds support for two new networks of video sharing sites (i.e. not two new sites, but potentially hundreds of new sites).
If you can find any other network I may have missed, please share with us...

Nao, I can't get the YT HD videos to show at HQ size. I tried making the changes to Subs-Aeva-Custom-Example.php and saved the AEVA site  list again but no luck. Here is the code after I made the changes:

foreach ($sites as $si => $te)
{
// // Always hide local mp3 player's URL
// if ($te['id'] == 'local_mp3')
// $sites[$si]['show-link'] = false;

// Set YouTube's HD videos to the same size as normal widescreen - you can also do: unset($sites[$si]['size']['hd']);
if ($te['id'] == 'ytb')
$sites[$si]['size']['hd'] = array(640, 385);
}

?>

I just took a look in the admin area and didn't notice an option to regenerate the site list.

I looked under the Maintenance area but there's just options for the thumbnails and to look for error's or prune comments; nothing about the site list.

I made the same edits as weightman.

I'm sorry, this should be straight forward but I'm having some difficulty.

Does this mod support the Internet Moving Image Archive? I know it's been requested in the past.
