I never saw a Youtube video that can't be embedded in HQ on Youtubes own site.
Well you must have been incredibly lucky...
I'd say about 75% of all current YT videos are only available in LQ.

Can you give me a link that doesn't?

Can I query what this setting exactly does? Does it relate to file/reference specified within the theme?

LainaaEmbed Local Files

Also, is there any way using this mod to get a video such as this one to embed...

Thanks,

LainaaEmbed Local Files
It embeds local files on your domain. So if you upload a .flv video to a folder, you can embed it.

SergeantAsh

Ah, ok so if I put a static link within a post to one of the include 'local file types', it'll automatically embed it right?

Yeah, the link I showed was a VERY BAD example of a widescreen video ;) hehe..  the point wasnt if it was REALLY widescreen or not ;)

But rather, the possibility to be shown AS on the Youtube page... widescreen (and yes, as mentioned, they most likely do because they want to encourage people to upload real widescreen content)

So my question was the player (widescreen) , and not the content really...   If its possible to have such a player as default, regardless of the content is really widescreen or not...

But I learned something too, that there actually is something like "isWidescreen" ... interesting :)
How does that actually work?? Does it check if the content have TRUE widescreen content?

It *does* show in HQ for me...
http://site.noisen.com/aeva-dev/5060/tests-video-embedding/msg228594/#msg228594
I tried with and without the &fmt=18 link in the video.

I dont think it does actually...  I know this particular video is pretty good in LQ too, but if you check your post there again, and choose the small menu at the far right bottom of the player, you have to manually CHOOSE to show it HQ. (This menu first show after you have started to PLAY the video)

And here is a photo where first video at top is your default embed, and second at bottom, is where I have manually pressed the "show HQ" in the Youtube player, giving a better image..

So the question (as originally posted), is if there is a way to force play HQ version of the video

(You gotta look VERY closely, to see the lower image is better, because this video have good LQ visual too)

Here is a far better video to use for testing:

The LQ version have artifacts (mpeg compression), where the HQ does not

Ok, I'm currently running rev. 52. When I disable HQ playback, it still embeds in HQ!!! But if you check your singing video on youtubes own site, you will see the video in LQ.
If you then also copies the embed code from Youtubes site and put it in a html file, you still have LQ playback which is clearly in a bad quality.

So what I'm trying to say is that both your snapshots are in HQ.

Hum, I'm loosing my mind here..

Because if I embed the video, and start playing it (with this mod), it WILL show a "HQ" button at the far right bottom corner (after video has started to play), and when turned on MANUALLY in the player, it will show the video better than what this mods auto embed does...

Does it show in HQ when you embed it using this mod? Not at my end

Sorry, I wrote wrong. What I ment was that I was running 5.2.42.

So I uninstalled 5.2.42 and installed 5.2.52 in that forum (SMF1.1.7), and now I can't get Youtube to embed HQ at all!!!

It seems to be a returning issue for me.

I then copied the embed code from my post and put it in a html file and uploaded it. And now my (NAO's) code is embedding in HQ!!

runebergen: Youtube is not expecting us to break their code and embed in HQ, so you should pay no attension to the "HQ" button.

Well, that was what I was hoping for :) BUT, unless I'm missing something, or doing something wrong, it matters a whole lot that button ... when using this mod.

(maybe I'm missing something, on HOW to make it show HQ)

Look at the images below...

First one is the default embedded video (using this mod) and the standard YouTube adress (auto embedded)

Last one, is when I manually press the HQ button, resulting in a far better image

runebergen

Will add to that, that even the SOUND is better when  that small HQ button is pressed (FAR better).
Than compared to the default embedded video.

:-[ maybe its not working at my site  :'(

runebergen

OK, I found the problem

I tested this embed code at my sites profile pages (got Ultimate Profile running, a "myspace clone") where my forum users post videos all the time at profile comments...

Here the auto embed code WILL embed LQ version...

But here is the strange thing...

I tried for testing purpose, to post a video as a regular forum post, and ... voila... High quality sound and video by default...

Hum...  Any ideas to why ?

These two are among the thousands of videos that don't have a HQ version (check out how there's no "high quality" link below them):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp_PJrPgpk8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBeULyq8u6Q
These are videos that will get the "#hq" treatment from Aeva, but that only means asking for HQ won't break the video. It used to. This is a recent change to YouTube and I'm not letting go before I know it's there for good ;)

@Everyone> I'm late... I was working on fixing a bug (custom width & height were broken recently, don't know when exactly, I know they're not used much but they'll be fixed in next release. If you're in a hurry, you can download revision 54 from the usual SVN server.)
I'll read & answer everything later. Need a cigarette!

@sh> Just go away >:(
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Aeva Media rocks your life.

Akyhne

Yeah I have an idea.. There seems to be an error in 5.2.52

When I install 5.2.52 with HQ enabled, my forum is generating one code for the object of Youtube embedding.
When I install 5.2.42 with HQ enabled, my forum is generating a different code for the object of Youtube embedding.

The difference is this to the end of the videolink:
&ap=%2526fmt%3D18

Just to post up the image of the difference...  and wow, its a  HUGE difference, specially in sound

If anyone knows why, I'd be super happy, because at my site, 99% of the videos posted are at profile comments..  O:)

Could it be something in how its parsed ?

Profile comments are parsed like this :

parse_bbc(un_htmlspecialchars ($comment['body']))

This to allow BOTH html and BB code

Edit : Nope, tried removing this feature, but it still embed LQ :(

Think you are on to something   :P

Here is the HTML on how its embeded in a FORUM POST

<embed height="344" width="425" autostart="false" autoplay="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" allowscriptaccess="never" allowfullscreen="true" quality="high" wmode="transparent" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZjJJwnfHyYc&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/>

Here is the HTML on how its embeded in a PROFILE COMMENT

<embed height="344" width="425" autostart="false" autoplay="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" allowscriptaccess="never" allowfullscreen="true" quality="high" wmode="transparent" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZjJJwnfHyYc&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/>

HUGE difference

Akyhne

I have no idea.

I still only got LQ when using 5.2.52

"Ultimate Profile"??? that's not a SMF mod, is it? So if it isn't and it's not part of SMF, AEVA will have no effect on the video and it will be mebedded in normal quality.

Edit: Ok, I think it's this one you are using: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=183574.0
