Is there anyway to make it so you don't need to have email.  Just register and start posting right away.  No need to activate.

Please check out the the registration settings under the admin panel, members section. You can set it on "direct registration".
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.
