Will Boardmod come back into Simple Machines? Because with tons of mods not every mod will work together! I loved the easy way to install mods and test them with boardmod...

QuoteAutomatic Mod Installation: Unique to SMF is our package manager - a system by which you can download and install upgrades and modifications with just a few mouse-clicks.

Boardmod will still work, yes.

I think the most important thing would be to setup a boardmod style site for SMF. Searching the forums for SE mods really..well..sucked..lol. :D

Tim

yeah, I remember that I had to reinstall some mods but couldn't find them...

Another good idea: Have all "approved" mods on a packageserver...

Juvenall Wilson

Very good idea..heh. Would be a nice job for the mod team..lol

Metho

BigP could say for sure, but I believe this is exactly what they are planning, as they too thought the old way was a bit messy.

Dunno, I never liked boardmod.  Id SMF had the ability to turn the boardmod application into a PHP script that could be a universal way to apply mods with backup and the ability to restore... THAT would be cool.

I've tried boardmod, couldn't ever get it to work right.  Gave up and now implement all hacks by hand.

I use the BoardMod app to write and to view mods (durring an install by hand). I don't often use it to apply mods (and couldn't with any 1.5.x version of SE..would get errors because everything was double lined..heh).

I never managed to get the pack man to work. I dont think my server could extract stuff from the .yp files or something. Boardmod always worked well for me :)

I dont know if anyone here is into game editing, but with most games you can just stick a file in a directory and it will work alongside the game (Like a level or something, you put in a levels directory and it find its automatically, or a mod where any files overwritten are used from the mod but the rest are used from the original game?) Would something like this be possible? Although the problem with game mods like this is that they can conflict if they use the same files and not work.

It never really took off, especially when it was the source of a HUGE hole in the software :(

How about a web based boardmod, where you choose the features you want installed and it generates all the source files online. kinda like a customised package.

Games have the benefit of a loading screen.  Message boards don't.  They'd have to do a LOT of work to install mods ojn the fly like that.
