Please help take a look at my forum...

I can`t access any of the pages...it seams that other Admin managed to brake it when he deleted mods with Un- successful Test...omg,please help me... successful

Arantor

We'd need to see the webserver error log to see what has been modified - and broken.

The -L-

That fille is Error.php in Source???

Arantor

Do you have a hosting plan with CPanel or something similar? There should be an entry in the control panel for 'error logs'. That's what you need to look at.

The -L-

I got uControl, and FTP access...im trying to not lost in uControl Panel...

Arantor

Somewhere in uControl Panel there should be an entry for error logs - if you find that, what does it tell you?

The -L-

Omg it seams that error log wasn`t enabled...-.- damn...

What to do????

Arantor

Well, we need to get the log enabled because without it we have no idea where to start looking for the error.

Your other course of action would be to overwrite all of the old files - removing mods in the process! - which would at least get you up and running again.

The -L-

So what do i do?
Error log is empty...whole forum is down,i got only ftp access left...i can overvrite default files for default theme and run the forum via it...

Arantor

Get your host to turn the error log back on.

Though you can overwrite all the forum files using the install package (download it, unpack it then use FTP to upload everything over the top of the old one - take care to ensure Settings.php is kept though, it should be anyway but just check)

The -L-

QuoteGet your host to turn the error log back on.

Well i guess its too late for that...but anyways i turn it on...

QuoteThough you can overwrite all the forum files using the install package (download it, unpack it then use FTP to upload everything over the top of the old one - take care to ensure Settings.php is kept though, it should be anyway but just check)

Well i will try... luckily few mins before that crash i made database backup (I just felt that its needed...O.o) well wish me luck...

Arantor

The thing is, until this is fixed there will be MORE errors, so as soon as they turn the log back on, browse to the forum and it'll throw something in there that we can use to identify what went wrong.

Kays

Just a thought. Do you see a file which looks like error_log in any of the folders or at the root of your forums. If so, check that for the error.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer. If that fails, read the manual.

Okay i overwrited Sources and root filles and it worked...ill see if anything is missing and check error log after it...

I just need to install forums again -.-

Only one problem !!
QuoteCritical Error!
Cannot connect to the database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

Arantor

Did you keep Settings.php like I said?

The -L-

I cant believe this...it totally slip my mind...aaaahhhh dAMN!!!

Could this help? I found my old backup of the forum but its like...a month ago...there i have Settings.php of my forum...

I`m gonna commit suicide now -.-

Arantor

Settings.php shouldn't change - upload it from the backup.

The -L-

Did that now it says

QuoteWarning!
The installer has detected that you already have SMF installed. It is strongly advised that you do not try to overwrite an existing installation - continuing with installation may result in the loss or corruption of existing data.

If you wish to upgrade please visit the Simple Machines Website and download the latest upgrade package.

If you wish to overwrite your existing installation, including all data, it's recommended that you delete the existing database tables and replace Settings.php and try again.

Arantor

Delete the install.php file and try going back to the forum page again.

The -L-

Uhh....doesnot work...:/

Arantor

So what do you get now?

The -L-

I can`t even open my forum...it keeps loading forever...

Here,take a look...

Arantor

So you have a Settings.php file. If you check with your host, are the contents of it correct?

The -L-

Yep...my other pages (non forum ones) work perfectly....

Arantor

That wasn't what I meant.

Settings.php contains the details for SMF to talk to your database. Check with your webhost what the database settings should be, and then check that Settings.php actually contains them. You could even ask them to check that for you in one go.

The -L-

........dunno....should i restore my old files of smf (that old backup)...

And loading of the page finnaly ends with this error:

QuoteConnection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Arantor

You need only to restore Settings.php from that backup.

The -L-

I did but...hey...what about restoring whole old smf i could easly upgrade forum to RC1-2 i got backuped pack of themes and mods from my forum...and i got saved database...

Arantor

You only need to restore the files - the DB should be intact.

The thing is if you've reuploaded your files already - making sure to overwrite the ones there - uploading Settings.php should have cleared some of the problem already.

The -L-

Damn its no use...i cannot even access /repair_settings.php...-.-

I will install new smf RC1-2 can you just tell me how to restore backup of the database?

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

- What was your version of SMF before these things came up?
- Do you have access to phpmyadmin?
- What is your control panel you provided with?
- I think it was a simple permissions problem if the files of the forum still existed.

The -L-

Lets see...i don`t have phpmyadmin my forum is down,i got access via FTP and permissions are usually 777 755 .......

Ony thing that went better is that som4ething showed on my error log and that is...:

Quite few errors xD

I hope i didn`t do anything wrong copying this here and making my forum vulnerable...

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

What is the hosting service if you don't mind? There is normally a phpmyadmin access given by most of the hosts. I am just checking just incase you might have misunderstood it. The thing that can save your site is the database and thats why a access to phpmyadmin (the database which your forum uses) is needed to link back to your forum.

- What was your version of SMF before these things came up?
- What is your control panel you provided with?

The -L-

I was using SMF 2.0 RC 1-2
Host is http://mediatemple.net/

I am not the real owner, that is the problem cause i don`t have pay pal...my friend has the owners account. But i`m Main Admin of the forum and web... so he just bought it and rest is my work...i will ask him about phpmyadmin as soon as he gets back home...

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

- Ok, from what i see your current stage, your database details "Settings.php" data is wrong. So well fix that up and you might be good to go.

- Thank you for the webhosting site, it looks good, i might buy a package off them ;)

The -L-

Hehe :D So what do i do with settings.php?

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

Hehe :D So what do i do with settings.php?

I have PM'ed you on what is to be done. An average SMF support member might have spotted this sneakingly. Well currently the details are wrong anyway, so won't be much of a problem.

btw, your pages take a hell lot of load time. Was it the same way before?

And I see your database details are of bytehost. Do you have a clue of your database details? If so, change them to the one on your current host.

The -L-

Umm..i didnt understood the question...as i said my friend knows all about that host i just took over the host...my pages load time was usual...i still cant access the forum -.-

I did what u asked of me in PM but problem is the same...

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

- The question was, is the load time of the pages that slow as it is right now ? (I could access the repair_settings.php before but it took alot of time to load up)
- Forget about the load time at the moment, get the database details right inside your "Settings.php" to make the files show the data in the forum.
- I had asked you just to remove the repair_settings.php and the security risk about it, it wasn't a solution.

The -L-

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

Just put up the right database details, and you should be up and working. If you have access to the control panel of the hosting, you can create a username for the database and then link them both together if you have forgotten your older username and password for that database.

The -L-

Only one problem now...how to find out database name???

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

If you have access to phpmyadmin, you will probably know by just looking into it.

If you have many installed, then export the "messages" table and see if you see something similar for that forum.

While removing the user associated to the database for your forum to add another user and associate it take care that you don't hit the "Delete Database" button. You'll loose everything. Unless you have a backup. :P

Norv

You need to write in it the correct database connection data: your host's server name, your forum's database name, your user, and your password, for the database.
These are the same data you entered when you first installed on this server.
Normally, you should be able to use repair_settings.php to do exactly this thing, set the correct data in Settings.php (repair_settings does it itself), but you need to write it correctly yourself in the page repair_settings shows you. If you don't know the correct data, check the welcome email from your host, or from the owner of the site, or ask your host.

I thought you had a SMF 2.0 RC 1.2 forum.

Have you by any chance replaced the files with the 1.1.10 package instead of 2.0?

Norv

Ah, you edited your message.
Please try to make sure that all the .php files in the original installation package of SMF 2.0 RC1.2 are all replacing your files. It seems that at least once, you have used 1.1.10 files, so I can't tell whether there are others as well.

Norv

The database that you changed?
Did you make a database restore?
Please explain exactly what you made with the database.

The -L-

I restored the database via repair_settings.php...

Norv

Modifying a few settings in repair_settings.php does not mean restoring a database. You only changed the connection data to the database.

So, you probably have a 2.0 RC1.2 database, and need a 2.0 RC1.2 forum. Make sure all the .php files in your forum are from the 2.0 RC1.2 installation package. Specially those in the ./Sources folder, but also those in the SMF folder, and themes/default at least.
After you do, please tell, does it still happen?
