Good call. I hadn't thought of that. BTW, Firefly/Serenity rocked in every way. End of hijack.

I made a new instillation and made the forum readable only by the
members, the load went down.
When I open the forum for non members to view the articles the loads
starts to climbs once again.

Also when I try to switch to the old forum while it is view-able only
by members, the load starts to rise once again.

The following are the last 3 errors from the error log:
2: fsockopen() [<a href='function.fsockopen'>function.fsockopen</a>]:
unable to connect to mail.hotmail.com:25 (Connection timed out)
?????: /home/se7o/public_html/kb/Sources/Subs-Post.php
?????: 973

?? ???? ??????? ??????? SMTP : 110 : Connection timed out

   8: Undefined offset: 532
   ?????:xxx/Themes/default/languages/Post.arabic-utf8.php (main sub
template - eval?)
   ?????: 773

You are using 2 different ports for sending mail through hotmail. That may account for the 1st 2 errors.  SMTP usually uses port 25, or at least used to. Hotmail may be using something else now, I don't know. Did your mailing system ever work?

ok

how can i fix it?

Start by going into your server settings in SMF control panel and make sure the smtp port is set to 25.

Actually start by finding out what smtp port hotmail uses and match yours to that. It may still be 25, but I read somewhere that some of these public mail outfits have begun using different mail ports.

se7o.com

it's 25

and

mail.hotmail.com

what can i do now

It looks like hotmail uses SSL (secure socket layer) which may make things more complicated. You can try ssl://smtp.live.com, but I wouldn't count on that working.  you can look HERE for some clues, but I host my own mail and use that server so I honestly don't have any experience using commercial servers like this.

I would be curious to find out why it says it's failing on port 25 and then says it's failing on port 110 which is the default POP port.

thank u Tiribulus

pllllllllz tell me steps to do that only :)

Well, go into the mail settings for SMF, set it to SMTP, the server as ssl://smtp.live.com and give it your username and password for hotmail. Like I say though, I'd love to be wrong, but that little voice is telling me it's not that simple.

I believe that I have read somewhere on this forum at some point in time before that SMF does not currently support SSL SMTP.

If this guy is right, and I have no reason to believe he isn't, then you won't be able to use hotmail due it's SSL requirement.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

The ssl:// protocol will only work if you have OpenSSL installed.
