I recently merged two of my topics but they did not merge in the correct order that I intended them. Is there a way to re-order topics?

Not that I know of, however, there is a mod that allows you to reorder sticky topics.

Shades.

Actually I'm wanting to re-order the replies inside the topic!? Because the topic that I merged into another topic was actually a reply but since I merged it, it is now the topic start instead of a reply like it should be...hmm! :o ???

Ahh I see the problem.

You can't fix this, but you should have started with the other topic then merge.

Shades.

I did...I tried doing it both ways but the same one keeps going to the top no matter which way I merge them! :(

why don't you just edit the replies to say what you want them to instead of trying to move them?

Shades.

Because the replies are from two different people. ;) The topic start should be my post and the reply which I merged to my post should be the reply or 2nd post...but it's the other way around! :o

As I understand your question you would need to get the post date changed, so the post you want to be on top is older.

Shades.

I think you are correct! How would I do that?

I just installed the mod but can't figure out where to set it up or reorder anything! Where should I be looking?

from just my memory
it is on the section where you add/modify a board
look on the very bottom of that page
there is a whole new section on topic sorting
(if you have trouble - I will post some pix)

Shades.

Ok, I found it but it reorders every topic in that forum. I need something that will reorder the posts in a single topic or somehow to edit the time and date posted!

This is a useful mod though, will keep it installed and use it! ;)

Thanks! 8)

hmm, , ,  maybe - but do you mean every topic in a Board? or Category?
(ie not sure what you mean by the term FORUM)

the one I cared about was the Category that holds links to the Calendar
obviously, I want them to appear in DATE order (not the order of posting)
my solution was to make each Calendar post have the Date be IN the subject line
then I sort by "Subject"
and it automatically lists them from the 1st to the 31st

Shades.

To me, a "Board" is the whole forum software, a "Forum" is a category, and a thread is a topic. I want to be able to re-order the replies inside any given topic. So if a reply to one topic was accidentally posted in the wrong topic, I can merge it into another topic and be able to put it in the order that I want to.

Hope that makes since...lol! ;)

Not at all.

Forum is software, category is a category and a topic is a topic. :)

Very good! Is there a solution to my question or not?

I want to be able to re-order the replies inside any given topic. Is that possible? ::)

(That's as simple as I can put it)  ;)

well. it is NOT possible to answer your original question if you do not use the correct terms for SMF
. . . that is, what do you mean by a given topic?
if you are using the term correctly, and replies are "posts",
then to my knowledge (which is often limited  :-[ )
you cannot move/re-order any posts
you can move WHOLE categories, or boards or topics
in reality - hard to imagine why someone would make a post in the wrong place anyway?

Shades.

Well, what happened was is a person with no forum experience registered and posted an event in the wrong "Category". I posted the event in the correct "Category" and wanted to combine their post with mine as a reply since they were the owner of the event and all (didn't want to delete or modify their post). But I wanted their post to be as a reply to my original post since my posted event was posted correctly in the right category and in the style that I want it.

Thanks anyways for trying to help! ;)

Seems if it was their event it could have just been moved to the correct category?
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.
