so for someone like me with MANY mods updating (ever?) to 2.x is out of the question especially since most where done manually :(

Arantor

That's the great thing: most mods run smoother in 2.0. A LOT smoother in most cases; very rarely have to do a theme edit at all for many mod installations in 2.0 and it can install to non-default themes too, out of the box.

For instance if you want to edit the main menu; that's no longer index.template.php, but it's held in Subs.php instead, so it's globally available to all themes.

Have a look to see if your mods have been updated to 2.0 first. Many of them have - though it's still very early for RC2 as it's only just out.

i already have SMF 2.0 RC1.2,do i have to do the same process as i did when i updated from 1.1.10 to SMF 2.0 RC1.2 ?

With RC 1.2, just download the small update package and upload all of the files and folder in it. select yes to overwrite any existing files. then browse to your forum url/upgrade.php.

Arantor

Updating from RC1.2 to RC2 is as king kratos states, you upload the large upgrade package over the top of the older files.

steve51184

so how would someone (with lots of mods) update 1.1.10 to this?

Great, now we can start to release some themes for 2.0 RC2. We will have a surprise for you.
I love SMF. I think it is the best forum software now. I claim that people do not need a paid forum software to get the features of SMF.
Just support this beautiful script, and thank to the Developers. What can I say more?
Oh, yeah, I have just remembered. Do we Charters need to anything? There is no change between the Charters' release and public right?
Thanks,

Dragooon

Congratulations!

It is supposed to be large upgrade package, this release has a lot of changes to be valid for small update package.

The large upgrade package will remove all your mods, although if you want to re-install them make sure they are 2.0 RC2(Not even some RC 1.2 mods work with RC 2) compatible or they have a 2.0 RC 2 version somewhere.

Arantor

He says small upgrade, it should be the large upgrade.

You normally only use the small upgrade for small release changes (e.g. 1.1.9 to 1.1.10). This is a much, much bigger change.

steve51184

don't want to update if i lose my mods lol

what BIG changes are there?

Arantor

Apart from the new theme which rewrites just about every single .template.php file, there are NUMEROUS other changes in the code.

I would suggest you look at the mod site in the coming days; many of the mods you have probably already have a RC1.2 version handy and will likely get an RC2 version soon enough.

Thanks,
Any answer about this friends?
Thanks,

vbgamer45

There is a large number of changes from the charter version to the public version mainly bug fixes. You would need to upgrade to the latest version.
