What would be nice is to view a list of what people are searching for. If they were not able to find the information they were looking for that it could be added to the board.

dtm.exe

Are you referring to something like a "Top 10 Most Popular Searches" mod or like a keyword mod where each keyword directs you to a different thread or page on your forums?

Does "Top 10 Most Popular Searches" mod exist?

Not really what I was thinking... I was thinking more a log file of user queries visible on to admins. Just to see what users are searching for.

sefu

Does anyone have any ideas for this request? Does it exist already? I haven't been able to find it!

destalk

I was just coming here to request exactly the same thing.

It would be great to know the kinds of keywords and keyphrases (and I think these should be kept separate, in the way that AWstats arranges it) that people are searching for (obviously not the user name of the searcher). Especially if it is for technical information or troubeshooting advice, it would help give site admins an idea of what might be lacking in their site, or where members might be getting confused.

I'm looking for a mod like this as well, any progress?

Its over 2 years since the original post.

No i havent seen a modification to add a log of searches

MultiformeIngegno

It would be a nice feature but I think that disabling it by default is better, maybe some users don't want to make public their searches! :-\

I think the idea is that this would be statistical information for admins only, not displayed publicly on the board.

I'm amazed that SMF doesn't doesn't do this as a matter of default actually. This would be such a useful feature for forum owners to keep a track on what users are seraching for (anonymously obviously).

This is exactly what I mean. By showing searches I as admin know where I need to focus and what people want to find on my boards. I don't see it being public at all, only for admin purposes.

Indeed. I have asked for this type of mod / feature on threads and there is a distinct lack of interest from SMF developers.

It seems strange.

Imagine if you were the admin of a help/support forum like this and you could tell what the top 50 search keywords were. You could publish help articles on those subjects and it would also help you to focus on areas of development that would be most popular.

These kinds of statistics are what drives the most successful websites in the world. I'd pay good money for this kind of feature.
