Adding a donation link in a post

Title says it all. I've created a donation button in PayPal, which is generated in HTML. When I add it to my post, all of the HTML code is displayed rather then actually showing the button and linking it to the donation page provided by PayPal.

How can I fix this issue? To my knowledge HTML is enabled in my administrator control panel. ???

Can you post the HTML you're trying to post please?

Thanks,

also, why do you have to use a paypal donation button? You can just use SMF's Subscription system after enabling it in Admin > Configuration > Core Features go to Admin > Members > Paid Subscriptions

Then just link your members to their profile where they can create a subscription (recurring or none recurring) with paypal

<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="10062817">
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_AU/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal - The safer, easier way to pay online.">
<img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_AU/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1">
</form>

I tried that as well searchgr, didn't work for some reason. hadesflames, I am only using it as a donation, not as a subscription or anything. It is specifically so I can get the image that's all. I have other plans for the subscription features offered with SMF. ;)

i got it working in a better way now ( in RC2)...

put this in your signature and substitute the YOUR-ID with the number of the paypal ID button from the "e-mail" code , (not the website form, <form action=)    ex:  hxxps://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=10111111

make sure that URL and IMG bbc codes are allowed in the signatures  .. and of course check if the infos about "en_US" are the same as given to you by paypal e-mail button creator

Sirius

I have yet to figure out how to put this under my avatar instead of the signature,  this would be done in the profile field/  Custom Profile Fields ,  but I only got a text link in 1 forum  and a mess in the other one..
You might think: do the same thing in both forum,   well it's not so easy,  an upgraded forum doesn't act exactly like a fresh installation.

Prosperous

Awesome, however I really wanted to maintain the code that PayPal provided, it allows for security and what not. Is there a possibility to do that or am I just gonna have to deal with using the code you provided?

the code I provided is almost the same as the code given to you by paypal...  when you create a button in paypal/ merchant services,  there are 2 type of codes .
They will give you a WebSite <form action=  and the other is the e-mail hxxps://www.paypal.c ..........number
Use the e-mail code and it will give you the button anyway, If you look well at the line of code I gave you, that same line from YOUR paypal e-mail code is there except for your private number ..  That line of code up there is only to make a IMG link to be able to see the button , nothing more

Post edited up there to make it more comprehensible ( being French , it's not easy to make sens in English :) )

Prosperous

Alright fair enough. I'll post the code you gave me and see how it works. Thanks for the help sirius! Your English is pretty much spot on and I understand everything you post. ;)

Admin > Configuration > Core Features go to Admin > Members > Paid Subscriptions
I feel very dumb when this happens, but I am in my admin open right in front of me here, looing at the menu under Configuration and I do not see "> Core Features go to Admin"

Where is it or what is its correct name, please?

Prosperous

You can do it in two ways:
 • Admin > Configuration > Core Features > Paid Subscriptions
 • Admin > Members > Paid Subscriptions...

Hope this helped. ;)

Thank you for the reply. I must be looking at at something other than the Admin Panel.

Here's what I see in the left side menu:

Main

Administration Center
-Support and Credits
-News and newsletters
-Packages

Configuration
-Features and Options
-Server Settings
-Current Theme
-Themes and Layout

Configuration is not clickable so I do not understand the ">"

In the above menu there is no such thing as "Core Features"." Where is there a link to "Core Features?"

Same problem under Members. Here's what that menu offers:

Members
-Members
-Membergroups
-Permissions
-Registration
-Ban List

What am I not seeing? There's no "Paid Subscriptions" This is really weird. Is this thread about some other version of SMF? As I said, I'm feeling really dumb.

Prosperous

Don't feel dumb. You are just using the older version (or technically the latest) of SMF. Are you using SMF 1.1.11 or SMF 2.0 RC2?

I am using 1.1.1.

I gather from your answer that this is a feature in 2.

Prosperous

I don't think it's available in version 1.1.11 and earlier, only in 2.0 RC2. There's nothing said on the official list of features either, so that's what I got my answer from in case you were wondering. Of course it would be great for a member of staff to clarify this (saves me installing a fresh 1.1.11 to answer the question).

I have my own server so it was no biggie to install both. It's only in 2.0.

Meanwhile I have a strange little question.  When using the installer for 2.0, I was too quick to accept the default forum name "My Community." I do not see any Admin screen that will let me edit that.

I was able to download a copy of "settings.php", then edit and overwrite it. So the desired title is now there. But isn't it strange that Admin has no access to edit that?

Prosperous

You are indeed able to edit the forum title... In RC2, go to:
 • Admin > Configuration > Server Settings... > General

Then all you have to do is edit the 'Forum Title' field. ;)
