Hi,

I am new here and I am absolutely sorry if this has been asked before, but I am a little bit confused.

I am running a forum with Invision Powerboard (Trial) v2.0.0, which was the last full version for free (a few days later it changed). Now I am want to convert to SMF 1.0.3.

I have already uploaded all files of the installation package into the new folder "smf", the files of the IPB forum are in the folder "forum". I think the installation of the SMF software (has not been done yet) should not be a problem, but the conversion of the database. Do I need a second fresh database, or can I simply convert my IPB database, after I have uploaded the "ipb2-to-smf" converter into the SMF folder. My host allows me only one database.

Befor I will start the installation I will definitely do a back-up of the database.

Thanks in advance.

Just move all of the IPB tables into the SMF database, add then fix IPB's config_global.php (is that what it is?) to match the new one. Run the converter and enjoy ;D

How can I move the IPB tables into the SMF database, if I do not have one?

If I install SMF I have to type in the information of my existing database, right? Is that then called SMF database, altough it is at that point still an IPB database?

Kirby

bleh silly me, i meant just install SMF in the same database but used different table prefixes in the installer (as long as its not ibf_ or whatever your IPB's is)

aahhh ... but aren't the table prefixes automatically different from that one of IBF? Is it right that I have to type in the table prefixes during the installation process?

And in which folder I have to copy IPB's config_global.php? In the SMF folder?

Kirby

yes, the table prefixes are automatically different, just sayin so that you dont make a mistake :)
and yes, you can leave conf_global.php in IPB's folder if you want
hope it all goes well
