I've had a few members on here say my forum is running slow so i need help to check if its a hosting issue.
Right so what i have done is recreated my forum at www.caringforhuskies.com/forum2.
I have the same theme and same mods installed.
This is on the same host but different server.
The other site is in my sig if you want to compare.
Running rc2 if you needed to know.
all comments welcome.
Thanks.

Add cache, if your server supports it. Just look at this topic, it should help you out: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=293441.0

not using godaddy as a host but thinking the domain may be registered with godaddy not really sure what affect that would have

SoLoGHoST

Seems to be running quite fine to me.

After caching, you may also consider compressing your CSS.

If you do this, make sure to have a backup of your index.css file in the rare case of a bug with the compressor you are using.

i'm still not conviced this isn't a server problem as i can refresh the official site in 12-14seconds the unofficial site is 4-6seconds.

Nick Whetstone

If you're sure this is a server problem, there is nothing Support here can do. Consider contacting your host if you've already used the tips we recommended. If you aren't sure, use the tips, and consider downloading YSlow if you're on FireFox. Use the recommendations they provide that you can (you may not have access to a Content Delivery Network, etc).

Also, if you have a lot of mods installed, that usually means more database queries and files loaded, therefore more loading time.

not using firefox using chrome both the sites are the same on the same host just using diiferent servers.
the only other difference is one is a fresh rc2 install, the other is a upgrade.

i have contacted the host regarding this and they are currently looking at the server to see if there are any problems causing to run slow if not i will consider moving servers.

Do you have Proxy Block mod?

ok thanks for the answer no i don't have that however how will that help with speed issues as surely adding a nother mod will slow the system down

Ash-1993

Adbrad. This could be your Hosting company fault if the forum is going slow. It will not be the forum software or the mods.

No it will not help the speed issue...it make my forum slower with this mod (Proxy Blocker)...which is why I asked if you have it installed.

Any update on this?  Did your host respond?  How many other sites are on the same server that your test forum is on?

Both work for me just fine (compared to my forum! (almost 50 mods))
I use Firefox mostly, but for that test I used Opera 10

not heard back of host regarding the server performance.
i'm not sure how many sites are on server

KensonPlays

Well, on my godaddy I think it is like 10, but I am not sure, maybe more, maybe less...

Here is a nice little tool that can give you an idea of how many sites are also hosted on your shared server:

I tried it, and there are 600(+) domains on same server as me! and Google over 1100!!

That's an eye-opener then with that many one server.

on my test forums server there is 1148+ according to that site.
and what is weired is that my normal forum is the only site on that server according to the site

JimM

Unfortunately if you have that many neighbors, you must be on an oversold host.  That can definitely contribute to slow response times of the server.

but the forum that is slow says it is the only site on the server

KensonPlays

That is odd. Do you view both at same IP, location? If you view them at 2+ locations, it might just be your location...

Your forum loads fine for me.  I notice that you don't have the time it took to create the page displayed so not sure how it compares to other 2.0RC2 installations.

thanks the main forum page come up as this
Page created in 0.088 seconds with 12 queries.

JimM

That is actually pretty fast if you are on shared hosting.  My 2.0RC2 test install that has no mods loads the main page in 0.062 with 10 queries.
