Can someone explain these FONTS to me?

Inside of default theme in SMF there are various fonts.

Candice, Hootie, President ...
Valshes .. .etc.

Can someone explain to me why are they there, and what are they for?
And what's more important, if I add some new can I relate them somehow
so they would also be useful in SMF installation, and useable & visible by all members.

They are used for creating the CAPTCHA images.

You cannot add them very easily to the user's browser since that would require them to download them and install them. While this is part of the CSS specification (yup, it is), IE doesn't support it.

I'm also not sure on the legality of that either. I know SMF can distribute them but I don't know about redistribution thereafter.
