Performance Warning

The cache directory is not writable - this will adversely affect the performance of your forum.

I saw on another topic that the repair settings.php would be required.

What would it do to the appearance of the forum?

Where would I find the file?

Kays

What is repair_settings.php?

Also check to see if the "cache" folder is chomded to either 755 or 777 depending on which your host allows.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer. If that fails, read the manual.

The cache folder is set to 755.

Kays

755 should be good then

Did running repair_settings.php help?

As previously asked where will I find the file?

Edit: File has been found

Arantor

If you go to the link Kays posted, it's the very very first thing in the post.

Appearance - no change to the forum, but it WILL cause slowdowns.

TheListener

What should I type in the address bar?

Arantor

Have you uploaded it to your server? Did you put it in the same place as SSI.php?

TheListener

The file is in the root directory.

Arantor

So is that where SSI.php is?

hadesflames

Then browse over to it. It should be something like

http://yoursite.com/repair_settings.php

this is of course, assuming that your forum is in the root directory as well. Otherwise the file will not work.

TheListener

The Save settings button is not highlighted.

Arantor

That's because Settings.php and Settings_bak.php aren't writable - you need to change their permissions in FTP.

TheListener

Settings.php cannot be written to by your webserver. Please modify the permissions on this file to allow write access.

Have tried 777 and 755

TheListener

settings.php is on 0644

the others on 0755

hadesflames

Switch Settings.php and Settings_bak.php to 777 or 755, then switch it back after you are done.
