i wonder if anyone can help me please.
One of the members on my forum reports that their outbox has disappeared completely!

Any thoughts please?

This would be better and more likely to get a response if it were posted in your specific SMF version's support board or possibly Bug Reports. This forum is for feedback and discussion regarding the software itself.

Have you installed any mods that affect the User Info box (post-bit) or Personal Messaging system? Or, have you done anything to the database or used phpMyAdmin recently?
