conversion from phpBB to SMF problem

Clean load of SMF Worked fine. Then the conversion from phpBB seemed to go well.  So I had the old forums on phpBB at one web address, and the new SMF version at another, deleted the phpBB files and moved over the SMF.  Everything works fine and looks good until I dig into the forums themselves.  The darn thing keeps going back to it's old location and when I try (many many many attempts) to change the server settings, first it comes up in error with this statement:

These settings cannot be changed because Settings.php is read only.

But when I look at the file it's read/write enabled.  So I reset and try to change the path for the Forum URL, the SMF directory, and the sources directory to it's new location, and I get this error:

An Error Has Occurred!
2: fopen(/home/hugginsr/public_html/squadnos/forums/Settings.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied

I'm ready to cry darnit!!! Really bites my backside.  I have to go reload my latest backup of phpBB to get the forums back up because right now the forums are directing to two locations and it's driving me COMPLETELY BATTY.

  Okay, going from freaky to freakier... is that a real word??

Reset my sql db, renewed the username, deleted the Settings_bak.php file, replaced it with a backup of the backup, reset the Settings.php file (over wrote all file properties to 777) AND NOW THE DARN THING WORKS!!!

Go figure... well, if anyone else has a problem moving their SMF from one web address to another, maybe this info will come in handy... all is well....
